Here is probably one of the top leaders in Canada, who has established Oxford houses to help addicts who have lost all. Hope - they’ve been crushed by their addiction- and facing homelessness. With Earl Thiessen‘s help, we have opened the first Oxford House in the province of New Brunswick. Kirk and his wife Erin Moss are the ambassadors for the Oxford house. What an amazing job they have done. There’s so much more to come. We appreciate the leadership of Earl and all of you folks who have supported us.

We are deeply grateful to have Earl Thiessen as a mentor to Walter’s House, and to be guided by the proven Oxford House that has been so successful across Canada, including Alberta. Earl’s leadership is grounded in fidelity to the Oxford House principles—peer-run governance, accountability, and sustainability—which is why the model works and continues to grow. With his mentorship, we are building Walter’s House in New Brunswick carefully, responsibly, and in full alignment with national best practices, ensuring long-term stability and real recovery outcomes for those we serve.

OUR MENTOR is always on ou minds: Earl Thiessen’s success with Walter’s House–style Oxford Houses in Alberta isn’t accidental—it’s the result of a proven model, disciplined leadership, and values-based mentorship, all of which he brings to you as a mentor.

Here are the key reasons Earl Thiessen has been so effective—and why his mentorship is such a gift to Walter’s House in New Brunswick:

1. He follows the Oxford House model with integrity

Earl is unwavering in his commitment to the Oxford House principles:

Peer-run, democratically governed homes

Zero tolerance for substance use

Financial self-sufficiency

No professional staff—residents lead and hold one another accountable

Because he never dilutes the model, the outcomes remain strong and consistent.

2. He builds leaders, not just houses

Earl doesn’t “run” houses—he develops people who can run them well.
Residents learn:

Accountability and decision-making

Conflict resolution

Budgeting and shared responsibility

That leadership culture is what allows Oxford Houses to multiply successfully, not just survive.

3. He understands systems AND people

Earl has the rare ability to work effectively with:

Government partners

Community organizations

Boards and funders

Residents in early recovery

He knows how to speak the language of policy without losing the heart of recovery.

4. He protects the mission as growth happens

Many programs fail when they expand. Earl ensures:

Each new house is stable before the next opens

Standards are maintained

Mentorship is embedded from day one

This is why Alberta has seen sustainable growth, not burnout or collapse.

5. He mentors with humility and generosity

Earl doesn’t gatekeep knowledge—he freely shares what works:

Governance structures

Common pitfalls

Best practices for boards and founders

How to respond to resistance or misunderstanding

That openness is exactly why he is trusted nationwide.

We are also so excited about what is happening at Walter’s House, our peer-run Oxford House, as we prepare to help another person in need of recovery from addiction. Everything is truly coming together. There is so much support, prayer, and growing community awareness around this work, and it has been incredibly encouraging.

We are almost ready to open another room. Flooring has been generously donated, and Kevin Douglass and Danny Russell have been working nonstop—painting, doing trim, and getting the bathroom set up. An electrician will be coming in next week to complete the remaining work.

We are deeply grateful for every prayer, every volunteer hour, and every act of kindness that is helping move Walter’s House forward. Thank you to everyone who continues to support the future of Oxford House recovery homes here in New Brunswick. Your support is changing lives. 💙🙏

Just wanna give a great big shout out to Kirk and Erin.
They are doing an absolutely amazing job being the ambassadors to Walters House - the men that are there are doing great.

When I walked in last week and saw the beautiful Christmas Tree it hit me-the love surrounding the house was so visible! ❤️

—— and the gifts that the two organized. ❤️

Kirk and Erin are always going out of their way to say thank you to everyone - so PHL wants to say thank you to them for all their commitment, their sacrifice and their love - we appreciate them so much.

Talking to the men - heard sentences like -we feel safe here - we feel cared and loved for here. It’s great that they have arranged CR, NA, AA people involved - and church - the search for self from addiction requires a lot of support.

Thank you to all the people who have donated to making Walters House a healing house for anyone that goes in there.

We will have another room soon- Thank you again for the flooring that was donated by Richies and more from the flooring world - thank you to all the people that helped along the way and over Christmas.

This is a very special mission that Kirk and Erin have been called for. I’m asking that you keep them in your prayers. Give them what they need and cover them with all good things that God has in store for this amazing couple. 🙏❤️🙏

Staying sober is tough. YOU ARE TOUGHER.

You can outgrow alcohol, you know. There doesn't have to be a horrific rock bottom. You're allowed to just wake up and decide you want more from life, anytime you like.
