The Central Northeast Health Foundation extends a heartfelt thank you to the family and loved ones of Bridget (Power) MacDonald for their incredible generosity and compassion.
In honour of Bridget’s life, $2,788 has been raised in support of the Dialysis Unit at James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre—a cause that was deeply meaningful to her and her family.
Bridget lived a life defined by kindness, love, and selflessness. One of the most powerful reflections of that spirit was the gift of life she gave nearly 26 years ago through the donation of her kidney to her sister, Mary. As her family so beautifully shared, “a piece of her still lives on”—a lasting legacy of generosity that continues to inspire.
Her family’s advocacy for accessible dialysis care is rooted in their own experience. Bridget’s father, Ned Power, travelled to Grand Falls-Windsor three times a week for dialysis prior to his passing. From that experience came a determination to make care closer to home possible for others. The Power and Dwyer families of Gander were instrumental in advocating for the establishment of the Dialysis Unit at James Paton Memorial, helping make this vital service a reality for their community. In recognition of these efforts, a chair within the unit was later named in honour of Ned Power.
Through their continued support, and through donations made in Bridget’s memory, her legacy of compassion and community care lives on.
Thank you for honouring Bridget in such a meaningful way, and for helping make a difference in the lives of patients and families in our region 💙
