👑 A king had ten wild dogs.
When a servant made a mistake, he would have him thrown to the dogs to be eaten.

One day, one of the oldest servants made a mistake. The king ordered that he be thrown to the dogs.
The servant said:
— I have served you for ten years, grant me ten days before you throw me to the dogs.

The king agreed.

In prison, the servant asked the guard to let him take care of the dogs during those ten days. The guard agreed, and the servant spent his time feeding the dogs, cleaning their kennel, and caring for them with attention and affection.

After the ten days, the king ordered that the servant be thrown to the dogs. But to everyone’s surprise, the starving dogs did not attack him: instead, they ran to him and licked his feet.

Astonished, the king asked:
— What happened to my dogs?

The servant replied:
— I served your dogs for only ten days, and they did not forget my kindness. I served you for ten years … and you forgot me after my first mistake.
