Many patients are told their lab results are “normal,” yet they continue to experience fatigue, brain fog, digestive issues, or disrupted sleep.

Standard lab ranges are primarily designed to detect disease. They don’t always reflect optimal physiological function or early patterns of imbalance.

In functional medicine, we look at the broader clinical picture — symptoms, patterns, and underlying systems — to better understand what the body may be signaling before conventional markers fall outside standard ranges.

Understanding the underlying pattern is often the first step toward meaningful recovery.

Chronic Epstein–Barr Virus (EBV) is often overlooked in patients with persistent fatigue.

After initial infection, EBV remains dormant in the body. In some individuals, immune stress, hormonal shifts, or ongoing inflammation may contribute to reactivation or prolonged immune burden.

Symptoms such as persistent fatigue, brain fog, swollen lymph nodes, or recurrent sore throat are sometimes dismissed when standard laboratory results appear normal.

Understanding the broader clinical picture is essential. Viral load, immune markers, stress physiology, and overall resilience all matter.

If you continue to feel unwell despite being told “everything looks fine,” further evaluation may be warranted.
