An authentic teacher and guide on the path of yoga and ta**ra, Yogacharini Maitreyi...

MY THOUGHTS ON THIS WEEK's THEME:
EMBODIMENT is the word to describe the Arkaya foundational practice. There is a vast difference between having a strong, fit body and actually being embodied. Embodiment means we are bringing consciousness and prana into the body. This requires the creation of very specific conditions in our nervous system, emotions and mind. A fitness approach, though great for buidling a certain physique, doesn't cut the mustard and simply is not yoga. Just as having great s*x cannot be called ta**ra. There are specific conditions which need to be created for the true yogic or ta***ic processes, experiences and states of consciousness to be realized in a person's life.
As Yogacharini Maitreyi beautifully sums up in her video here, the body - soma - is directly related to and interwoven with the unconscious mind. So as we move mindfully, without force and with proper pacing, we create the conditions to churn the unconscious mind and bring up old layers of emotion, trauma, conditioning and patterning. These layers are the obstacles to realizing a more harmonious, integrated and expanded sense of self. Embodiment is a process of brining awareness/consciousness in and through the body. So this endless practice of moving beyond our limited sense of self - transcendence - means going into every corner of our being and acknowledging what's there rather than skipping over it with an overly fast paced life or numbing out and avoiding it with an overly sluggish lifestyle.
My deepest gratitude to Yogacharini Maitreyi for always guiding me through the many twists and turns that the unconscious mind has taken me down and for her clarity on the nuances and subtleties of authentic practice of yoga and ta**ra.
