Mindfulness Course
Building resilience and self-acceptance
with Ann Burns, MA/ABS, RCC
This course is for all levels, those who are new to a mindful practice and those who are more experienced and wish to join in on a group experience. Using techniques based on the work done by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MSBR) Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical Centre, we will explore a number of mind-body-spirit exercises which are easily learned to practice at home. Participants join the program in an effort to move towards wholeness of body, mind and spirit. The program will be an invitation to embark on a journey of self-development, learning and healing.
People have been referred to the Massachusetts program for a wide range of challenges: relaxation, stress management, anxiety and other mental health issues, chronic fatigue, pain, heart disease, grief, and life transitions/losses.
The holistic mind-body approach will involve a progression through a series of mindfulness exercises from body scans, visualization, breathing, meditation, gentle stretching and journaling which participants are encouraged to practice at home.
In combination with these exercises the group will examine their thought patterns and learn to apply Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) techniques to challenge any unhelpful thoughts. This can lead to the benefits of greater empowerment and compassion for self. This course is designed to help create greater happiness, self- acceptance and resilience in coping with the ups and downs of day to day living.
