What to expect from your initial appointment:

- Please arrive 10 minutes early to fill out initial paperwork (Manual Ostropathy Intake and Consent form)
- Wear comfortable clothing and bring shorts with you (there's a bathroom you can change into)
- There will be an initial consultation, assessment and then treatment
- I will perform an initial manual assessment without a shirt on and in shorts, women can keep their bra on
- Please plan to come for 1 hour
- Have your cell phone turned off or muted

If there's anything you don't feel comfortable with, such as not wearing a shirt, please let me know ahead of time so I can plan accordingly.

WHAT IS OSTEOPATHY?

Osteopathy is a non-invasive hands-on, holistic form of treatment, assessing the whole body. First described by Dr. A.T. Still in the 1800s, it focuses on treating the musculoskeletal system, so called “osteopathic lesions”, to re-establish balance and encourage the self-healing mechanism of the individual. By regarding body, mind and soul as a unit, Osteopathy is concerned with a PERSON-CENTERED health care rather than disease-centered. While considering the interrelationship of structure and function, the Osteopathic Manual Practitioner uses non-invasive manual techniques such as joint mobilizations, soft tissue therapy, myofascial release and visceral manipulations. Furthermore, the Manual Osteopath can give recommendations on a patient's diet and lifestyle and prescribe exercises to re-establish balance.

BIO:

Silva graduated from PhysioAkadem Berlin in 2009 and from the National Academy of Osteopathy (NAO) in 2013. She's an active member in good standing with the National Manual Osteopathic Society (NMOS) and the Manual Osteopathy Association of Manitoba (MOAM). Silva complements osteopathic manual treatments with her knowledge and experience in physiotherapy to help patients optimally. In addition, her further qualifications in Visceral manipulation, Manual lymphatic drainage, N.A.P. – Reset the Brain, TMJ, Craniosacral therapy and the Dorn method help contribute to her treatment style. She's especially skilled in treating acute and chronic back pain, shoulder injuries and TMJ/TMD.
