IMPORTANT TIPS 📝

Contacts are for seeing, not for sleeping!
The closed-eye environment is the perfect place for bacteria to grow. This is one of the many reasons you should never sleep in your contact lenses (not even for a nap!).

Keep contacts away from water.
Contact lenses should only come into contact with your eyes and proper contact lens solution. Water can contain acanthamoeba, a bug that loves to eat the eyeballs. It can get trapped under your lenses while swimming and cause severe, sometimes irreversible, vision loss. If you love swimming or scuba diving, ask us about prescription goggles instead.

Dry eyes with contacts?
Try using lubricating eye drops that are labeled “safe for use with contact lenses.” If dryness or discomfort continues, it may be time to switch to a different lens material. Not all lenses are created equal, and your optometrist can help find the best option for you.

Give your eyes a break.
Even if your lenses are comfortable, it’s healthy to rest your eyes. Try setting aside one day a week or evenings after work to wear your glasses instead.

⭐️Maintaining healthy eyes while wearing contact lenses is essential. Always follow the replacement schedule recommended by you and your optometrist. Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before inserting or removing your lenses, use fresh contact lens solution, and clean your contact lens case regularly. Did you know that there are many different types of contact lenses? 👀

Contact lenses are a medical device that correct your prescription (including astigmatism!) and newer technology can also correct your reading vision. Call the office to ask about a multifocal contact lens fitting (if you’re tired of reaching for reading glasses).

Contact lenses can also change the colour of your eyes. Some people like to change it up daily or just for occasions, either way we always recommend you get your coloured contacts fitted properly.

Replacement schedules for lenses vary by person and brand. Call the office to chat with your optometrist to find out which options best suite your lifestyle!

Are you or your child using Myopia control to slow the growth of their eyes? Consider contact lenses as an add on to their treatment. They can be used daily or for occasions and give the eyes consistent myopia control treatment.

It’s good to chat with your optometrist to see which type of contacts are right for you.
