JOB DESCRIPTION – REGISTERED PRACTICAL NURSE (part time)
JOB SUMMARY
The primary role of the Registered Practical Nurse is to provide continuous care to patients through delivery of health teaching, health promotion and primary health care within their scope of practice as defined by the RPNAO. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
PRIMARY REPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Responsibilities:
• Ensure examination rooms are stocked appropriately with medical supplies and other necessities
• Es**rt patients to examining rooms and document vitals and reason for visit in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
• Do blood pressure and weight and height check for all patients
• Assist physicians during female physicals or gynecological exams
• Administer allergy, immunization, B12 injections and flu shots
• Perform clinical procedures such as dressings, visual assessments, weight checks, urinalysis and records results in EMR
• Obtain any diagnostic results or reports for physician when not on chart
• Review, contact or follow up with patients as requested by Physician
• Check message in box to maintain communication between Reception/Management/Physicians
• Speak to patients who have questions
• Download labs daily from Dynacare
Non Clinical Responsibilities:
• Maintenance and sterilization of all instruments
• Monitors inventory of all medical paper products and other medical supplies
• Organize drug cupboards and order samples as required from drug reps
• Record refrigerator temperatures
• Other duties as assigned. Duties may be changed based on the needs of the FHT.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Current certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario (RPN)
• Minimum two years nursing experience
• Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
• Proficiency and experience working with an electronic medical record (preference given for Telus PSS)
• Ability to organize time and set priorities effectively
