Maitland Valley Family Health Team A comprehensive and accessible primary care centre of excellence serving Goderich and area. Please note that this page is not monitored at all times.

The MVFHT utilizes a patient-centred approach in order to provide you with access to the highest possible quality of care. This is achieved through collaborative efforts by MVFHT Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Allied Health Professionals – and of course with you, the patient. Along with standard primary care services, the MVFHT provides Health Promotion/Disease Prevention and Chronic Disease Management Programs and assists patients with the development and implementation of self-management healthcare practices. The Lab hours for drawing blood are:

Monday: 8:00 am to 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm
Tuesday: 8:00 am to 12: 30 pm and 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm
Wednesday: 8:00 am to 11:45 am
Thursday: 8:00 am to 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm
Friday: 8:00 am to 11:45 am

Please note: For non-venipuncture matters, the lab is open until 5:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and until 12:00 noon on Wednesday and Friday. If you have a medical emergency call 911 or go to the Emergency Department of your local hospital. Please do not post personal medical information.

The types of heart disease can be different for women than men. Some common types are:
● Coronary artery disease
● Valvular heart disease
● Arrhythmia (irregular heart beat)
Women are more likely than men to have:
● Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD)
● Coronary vasospasm
● Microvascular dysfunction (small-vessel disease)
● Takotsubo (stress-induced) cardiomyopathy (disease of the heart muscle)
● Peripartum cardiomyopathy (weakened heart during or after pregnancy)
Some health providers may be less aware of the differences between women and men.
