It is with every emotion, I am closing Knead Wellness this coming July. At a time when so many small businesses are struggling, I can proudly say, we are not. And I have our community to thank. The support we have received over the years is overwhelming, and I will stay forever appreciative of what Golden has done for Knead, the folks that have worked there both in the front and behind the scenes, and my little family. However, it is my family that has been going through a season of change over the last couple of years and Dave and I have decided that we need to relocate to a large centre to obtain a wider range of specific supports and services, in order for our family to have the best chance of thriving. We are hoping this move will be temporary, but because life is full of so many twists and unknowns I have decided that I can’t continue to juggle the clinic and home for that time.

While contemplating options for the direction of the clinic I was in talks with our landlord, who then informed me that he will be taking the space back for a new business venture himself, and so to put it simply, that’s that.
Our exact date of closing is still to be determined, but I anticipate that it will be the end of July.

What does that mean for our incredible crew of therapists?!?

Kristi is diligently working at finding a suitable replacement location to practice out of, and we will keep you posted with details as they solidify. You can follow her up dates on Instagram .rmt

Shauna will continue on at the clinic until late June or early July as planned, when she will transition to teaching hide tanning workshops through the summer and early fall. Watch for her back in Golden at some point early next winter. You can follow her on Instagram .mikomi

Jess will be completing the second and final year of massage at Vicars School of Massage Therapy, after which she will challenge the board exam (and rock it!!) to become a Registered Massage Therapist. She’ll be dividing her time between massage and Skydiving at Extreme Yeti, here in Golden. You can follow her on Instagram

As for myself, I have no idea massage wise. For the first while, my sole focus will be our family and helping everyone settle into our new routines. I do know however that I still really love working as a massage therapist and I'm not ready to let it go just yet. You can continue to follow the clinic Instagram page for updates as I have information available

We’ve brought in a few new exciting additions to the clinic right in time for Christmas!

Helie & CO offers a range of handmade bath and body goods created right here in Golden. If you’re not already familiar with it Audrey’s products, they are created with all natural ingredients and quite frankly smell like heaven. It’s obvious when using any of these products, that there has been care to every last detail and they would be a perfect Christmas gift or stocking stuffer on their own or paired with a massage gift certificate.

We recently sat down with Kim at Assure Fit to take a deeper dive into her approach with clients and to see how and where our values align with health and the care of folks we see.

The short of it is, we couldn’t be more on the same page. Kim takes a multifaceted approach to care and looks at the big picture when creating a “program” for someone. Sleep, water intake, flexibility, mobility, mental health and stress, to name a few.

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Kim for a long time now, and personally consider her to be one of the best at what she does with coaching. To hear that she is helping guide folks through not just the physical component but as a support to help manage other aspects or to point folks in the direction of professionals that can, makes her exactly the kind of person we want to collaborate with.

Thanks for taking the time with us, and for the humbling run through of some mobility testing - I have some work to do myself it would seem! Ha.

Meet Jess! Jess is entering her second year of studies at Vicars school of Massage Therapy in Calgary, with the goal of becoming a BC RMT. She is driven and eager to grow her skills with hands on practice and will be offering treatments out of the clinic for student rates.

What you can expect from a treatment with Jess is a thorough orthopaedic assessment and health history intake, followed by a hands on massage treatment. She has a natural touch and an engaged and thoughtful approach.

Jess is a switched on and hardworking person and such a positive ray of light, I’m excited for her to be a part of the Knead team!

Which makes me even more honoured and excited to say that you can now find some of her beautiful pieces for sale and on display and in the clinic! They’re truly breathtaking, and the exact types of locations a person would like to imagine themselves as they zone in and out of a massage treatment.

Who says it’s not too late to pursue what you love? Painting has always come naturally to me, the less “in control” a brush is the more my personal style displays itself. My grandmother and parents put me into art lessons with Colorado oils artist Jodi McIntosh when I was just in middle school, and I spent time with her back then, learning how to draw, and then paint. Jodi shared with me the magic of painting what I really saw in the world.

I quickly learned that landscapes were what caught my eye. Throughout my life, I have been privileged to live and work amongst some of the most beautiful mountains in the world. My husband and I have lived and explored these mountains hiking, skiing, biking, boating, and just experiencing them in Colorado, Montana, and for the last three years, British Columbia, Canada. I find myself most inspired by the dramatic shadows created during short mid-winter daylight hours, and the contrast of snow and sunlight. I hope that my artwork serves to encourage folks to get out enjoy and experience nature and in turn, evolve the great respect I have for it.

In the last few years, my friends and family have commented that I should try to sell my art, and share it with others. I am finally working on that. I hope that you enjoy it.

I am open to create commission based work or take on projects of any form! Feel free to contact me!

Although this weekend is not the “last of summer” it always feels a bit that way as we transition back to school schedules, activities and work. That’s reason enough for us to “flip the sign” and close up for a few days. We’ll be out of service and away from the phone and email today, tomorrow, and Sunday, and back in action on Monday.

Shauna is an engaged, knowledgeable and intuitive RMT, and if you’ve been lucky enough to have a treatment with her you may also have learnt that she is a talented hide tanner (and maker of SO many beautiful things!).

Over the years she has been perfecting her craft of hide tanning, and in the most recent years has begun sharing her skills with others through offered workshops around British Columbia. Her work is gaining momentum, and the demand for workshops is growing - yes! So, with that she will be taking a little break from massage for the summer to shift focus to travel the province teaching others and growing her skills even further.

If you don’t already follow .mikomi I cannot recommend it enough. The work she does is so jaw dropping incredible. It will also be there and here that you can catch updates on her return to massage in the fall.

Shauna, we will sure miss you around here over these next few months, but are so incredibly excited and proud of you for taking this time to grow and share your passion.
