Five lanes open June 26, 2026!

Warmer weather is here and summer is on the horizon. There's been some questions about the Grand Bend Bridge and the status of the project come summer. Here's the latest ⬇

Will the project pause this summer with lanes reopening?
➡ Short answer: Yes.
➡ Longer answer: With the true Canadian winter we experienced, progress was slowed a bit during the winter months. That said, the project team still expects to have the new five lane cross section to be open to traffic as of June 26, 2026, including the sidewalk on both sides. This will allow traffic to resume over the entire bridge without lane closures in time for the busiest parts of the summer season.

Will there be more work after the summer pause?
➡ Short answer: Yes.
➡ Longer answer: There will still be some work to be done once summer comes and goes. Those final efforts will take place in September 2026 with the project expected to be complete by the end of October 2026.

The entire project team wants to thank the community for their ongoing patience throughout this large construction project. We're almost there.

Upcoming Road Closure: Main Street W in Grand Bend - Monday, April 13 🚧

On Monday, residents can expect increased traffic delays as additional traffic control will be in place to accommodate significant construction activity at the Grand Bend Bridge project site.

On this date, girders are being delivered to the site and placed on abutments. Due to the small footprint of the site and the size of the equipment and material required, Main Street West between Ontario Street (Highway 21) and Kitchener Avenue will be closed to traffic from 7:00am to 4:00pm. Additional traffic control will be in place on area streets.

The project team thanks everyone for their ongoing patience during this project.

Our Story

In 1971, our first medical building was built in Grand Bend on Gill Road with only a small number of doctors, registered nurses and medical office assistants. We adopted the Community Health Centre model in 1999 with the addition of a physiotherapist, health promoter, social worker, dietitian and a diabetes education program.

It was evident that we needed more space, so our Centre moved to its current home at 69 Main Street East in 2004. The newly renovated space in Hensall was opened in 2010 to incorporate teaching into primary care activities.

The Grand Bend and Hensall sites work in collaboration with the Southwest and Erie-St. Clair Local Health Integration Networks, as well as various agencies and services within Lambton and Huron counties. An ongoing partnership with area hospitals allows our Centre to provide the best care and programming possible for our clients, patients and the surrounding community.

Primary Care: Physicians, Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioners, Registered Practical Nurses, Medical Office Assistants, Phlebotomists
