Cynthia Benoit is a dedicated Master of Social Work, a title she wears with pride. Born and raised in the picturesque surroundings of St. Alban's, Newfoundland, Cynthia's roots run deep in a place that shapes her commitment to social justice. Throughout her career, she has immersed herself in the social services sector, tirelessly working and volunteering to create meaningful change. This rich experience has equipped her to craft thoughtful program plans, develop comprehensive policies, and establish procedures that address the needs of those she serves. Her ability to evaluate and implement initiatives on both micro and macro levels speaks to her versatility and commitment.

Cynthia's work is driven by a profound compassion and empathy for those that she works with. She stands as an advocate, tirelessly working to disrupt the entrenched inequities and oppressive structures that pervade society.

Currently, Cynthia resides and works on Miawpukek First Nation, the only First Nation on the island of Newfoundland. Here, she is employed as a Case Management Social Worker, collaborating closely with an interdisciplinary team at the Amelia Joe Health Center. As a seasoned Registered Social Worker (RSW) with 16 years of experience, I've walked alongside individuals, families, and groups through life's challenges. With a Master's degree in Social Work and extensive training in evidence-based therapies (DBT, CBT, psychodynamic, and more), I offer a versatile approach tailored to each person's unique journey. My experience in acute care and community mental health settings has deepened my understanding of mental health complexities. I'm dedicated to creating a safe, supportive space for exploration, growth, and healing. When you need a trusted partner in your mental health journey, I'm here to support you with empathy and expertise. Outside of work, I find solace in life's simple pleasures – living by the ocean with my partner Felix and our loyal black Labrador retriever, Jack. Boating and spending time with loved ones, especially my children and grandchildren, bring me immense joy and balance to my life.

New virtual provincial depression treatment group

NL Health Services is offering a 10-week virtual treatment group for adults (ages 18+) who are experiencing symptoms of depression.

Participants will explore how depression affects the mind and body, while learning practical, evidence-based strategies for coping and recovery. This supportive group also offers the opportunity to connect with others in a safe and understanding space.

Open to individuals across the province.

Deadline to apply: Friday, April 25, 2025.

Grand Falls - Windsor!

We are looking forward to our drop-in program for the neurodivergent and autistic communities tomorrow evening, February 4th, 2025!

In this program we will do a bunch of different things each week. For example, one week we may play board games and another week we may do a craft. This week we will be playing board games.

This program will run every Tuesday from 6:30pm- 8:30pm in our new office on 7 high-street Grand-Falls Windor. This event is open to ALL ages, please note if your under the age of 12 you must be accompanied by someone 16 or up. You can bring your family or come by yourself its completely up to you!

We have an exciting announcement!!! Abigail Peyton, who has previously worked with us as a Psychometrist will be joining Dr. Krista Barney Psychological Services Inc. as a Registered Psychologist (Provisional)!!

Abigail completed her Master of Arts in School Psychology at Mount Saint Vincent University, along with a Bachelor of Science with Honours (Psychology) and a Bachelor of Education at Memorial University. Although her graduate training took place in Nova Scotia, she returned to Newfoundland and Labrador to complete a six-month school psychology internship with NL Schools. With experience in various school settings and as a substitute teacher, Abigail incorporates a school-based perspective into her practice to ensure recommendations are evidence-based, relevant and transferrable to the school setting.

Abigail provides comprehensive psychoeducational assessments for children and youth to address concerns related to learning, behaviour, and attention. She also offers consultation to schools and families on these topics, working collaboratively to support children and youth. Her areas of focus include ADHD, Specific Learning Disorders, Intellectual Developmental Disorders, and other behaviour-based concerns. Abigail is also interested in helping children and youth manage stress and anxiety, promoting evidence-based reading instruction, and providing psychoeducation to schools, educators, and other professionals.

Abigail is now taking on referrals for assessment of children and youth aged 5-18. She is also taking a limited number of referrals for therapy with children and youth experiencing difficulty managing stress and worries.
