Today is the first full moon of 2025. Known as the Quiet Moon by our Celtic Ancestors, this full moon is happening in the sign of Cancer, fully embodying the energies and stillness of the season. Cancer is opposite the sign of Capricorn in the zodiac, refusing to conform to the strict structure of the sign our sun is currently in. Instead, our moon-ruled sign of Cancer encourages us to lean into fluidity, into our intuition, and into ourselves.

Lady Luna is at home here. She’s shedding the expectations of the outside world, taking off her bra, slipping into pajamas in the late afternoon, and crawling under her favorite blanket with a cup of hot tea and a good book. She refuses to participate in the hustle of the outside world for she knows, this is not the time for that.

When the moon is in Cancer, we are reminded to nurture ourselves as much as we nurture others. We are reminded that we cannot pour from an empty cup, that nesting, journaling, crying, and sleeping-in are forms of self-care, and that nostalgia can be healing. In the full moon phase, we are pushed to release what no longer serves us, making room for new growth in the coming months. Consider, in your moments of hibernation, what are you carrying that is weighing you down? What is your intuition telling you to release? What are you tending to that you need to let die?

Embrace the season. Embrace the phase, and like this moon, go a bit quieter and trust that the outside world can wait.
