We have some good news regarding the syphilis outbreak in Alberta! rates in Albertan jails and remand centers have dropped due partially to the change in how testing is approached.

"Data shows the number of syphilis cases detected and treated upon admission in Alberta’s 10 provincially operated jails and remand centres between 2022 and 2024 were cut in half to 356 from 701. Angela Draude, senior operating officer of CHS, said having nursing staff take the time during the consent process to educate people on the disease, instead of putting up a poster or providing information that may not be read or understood, has made the difference."

We’re excited to announce that our series at the Grande Prairie Public Library continues with a vital session for older teens.

Join us on April 15th for: Safe Relationships. 🤝

This free, one-hour session is designed for youth aged 15–18. As they prepare for adulthood, we provide a safe space to explore:
- Relationship Dynamics: Identifying the difference between healthy connections and power/control dynamics.
- Safety & Red Flags: Recognizing different forms of dating violence, including stalking and digital tracking behaviors.
- Boundaries & Consent: Understanding personal rights and respect in any relationship.
- Practical Support: Learning safe ways to help themselves or friends who may be experiencing abuse.

We are proud to offer these important tools to help our local youth build a foundation of safety and respect.

⚠️ Pre-registration is required! Sign up here: https://events.gppl.ca/event/odyssey-house-safe-relationships-49954

Sexual health fact Friday!
The terminology for referring to s*xually transmitted infections has evolved throughout the years. We used to call them STDs (s*xually transmitted diseases). However, this is not entirely accurate as many of them do not have symptoms and do not always manifest into a disease. We are beginning to get into the habit of using the acronym STBBI which stands for s*xually transmitted and blood borne infections.

If you need testing for STBBI we are open 9-6:30PM Monday - Thursday and 9-3:30PM Fridays.
