💙Community Partners💙

We received an invitation to attend a chapel service from our friends and community partner Peace River Bible Institute last week. Participants and staff experienced worship and a spoken word lead by students attending PRBI.

After the service we sat with students and enjoyed, stories, treats, and prayer. It was a wonderful time of worship and connection outside of Rising Above. It is comforting to know we have partners in the community who are in prayer for us.

The students also bake us yummy cookies to have during class breaks here at Rising Above. This small act of kindness is greatly appreciated and looked forward to. 🍪

He is RISEN!
He is RISEN indeed!

🌺Happy Easter🌺

Matthew 28:6
He is not here, for He is risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying.

Easter reminds us that the grave is not the end of the story—Jesus conquered death and made a way for new life.

This is our HOPE. 💙

In the same way, recovery is a journey from what once held us captive into new life. Where there was brokenness, there can be healing. Where there was darkness, there can be light. Where there was defeat, there is now freedom.

Because He is risen, change is possible. Because He lives, we are not defined by our past.

✝ Good Friday ✝

On this Good Friday, we remember the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross.

Out of deep love for us, He bore our sin, our brokenness, and our pain—making a way for redemption and new life. What was meant for darkness became the greatest expression of God’s grace and mercy. 💙

Good Friday reminds us that Jesus stepped into suffering and carried what we could not carry on our own.

In the same way, those on the journey of recovery know the weight of brokenness—but also the power of surrender. The cross shows us that we don’t have to stay bound by our past. There is freedom, healing, and forgiveness available to us.

Because of His sacrifice, no story is too far gone. No life is beyond restoration.

May we never lose sight of the power of the cross and the depth of His love for us—and the HOPE it brings to every recovery journey. 💙

✨Celebrating Sue's 2 year's ✨

Today we are celebrating Sue and the impact she has here at Rising Above. 💙

Sue serves as one of our Inner Healing Facilitators and teaches participant classes in our program. She brings a warm and calming presence to every conversation, creating a space where participants can reflect, heal, and grow. When teaching, Sue thoughtfully shares her experiences and knowledge, encouraging and guiding those in the program.

It is truly a joy to have Sue on our team. We are grateful for the heart and care she brings to this work, and we look forward to many more years together! 🌹

💫Breaking Cycles of Defeat 💫

March has been a busy month with several graduations from the program! 💙

A huge congratulations to Amy, Kate, Laurie, Ally, and Brenda. Over the past six months they have walked an intense journey of healing, questioning, courage, and growth. Change isn’t easy—but each of them showed up, did the hard work, and leaned fully into the process.

As they step into this new chapter, we are filled with hope and excitement for what their futures hold. While this milestone is certainly worth celebrating, we know it is just the beginning of the lifelong journey of recovery. ✨

✨Building Partnerships in Prayer✨

My first time out of Grande Prairie was a road trip to Edmonton for the Provincial Christian Prayer Breakfast with 5 lovely ladies.

Thank you Lord for a safe trip, fellowship, laughter, coffee, partnership, stories and prayer.

Premier Danielle Smith spoke about the value and importance of family, and Keynote Speaker, Georgialee Lang, shared her recovery journey praising God for drawing her to him.

While in Edmonton, I also had the opportunity to tour The Mustard Seed Prairie Manor. They have visited us a few times, and it was wonderful to see their work firsthand.

As Rising Above continues to grow, we look forward to building even more connections with organizations here in the Grande Prairie area as we work together to support and pray for our community.

Our Story

Rising Above started as a small men’s recovery center in 2007 in downtown Grande Prairie. Our focus at the time was on those who were facing chronic homelessness and addictions. Since the beginning, we have based our 6-Month Residential Treatment Program on our H.E.L.P.S model (Housing, Employment Readiness, Life-Skills, Personal Development, and Spiritual Formation). By using this model, countless people have embraced recovery and learned vital skills to help them integrate back into society and go on to lead happy and healthy lives.
