🎊Congratulations Jason!🎊

Today we celebrated Jason's Graduation from the Rising Above program. When Jason first arrived at Rising Above, he carried a heavy burden—both physically and spiritually. His body was weary, and his spirit was weighed down. We watched him dedicate himself wholeheartedly to his program with remarkable effort and perseverance. Over time, we began to see real transformation.

Today, Jason stands as a testament to growth and resilience—light, energized, and full of life. Jason is heading to our second stage as he continues to pursue his education of Addiction & Mental Health Professional with passion and purpose. He eagerly anticipates the start of his career and the opportunities that lie ahead.

We have no doubt that God has big plans for Jason, and we are excited to see the incredible impact he will make in the future.

🟣August is Addiction and Overdose Awareness Month🟣

Three years ago, Kim Peters started a tradition to honor the lives of those we have lost to addiction and overdose. With August being Addiction and Overdose Awareness Month, we take time to reflect, remember, and acknowledge the impact addiction has had on so many lives. During class time at Rising Above Kim shares the song Somebody’s Someone by Daphne Willis with our participants, then she asks them to add photos to the wall of their somebody’s someone. These pictures are of siblings, cousins, parents, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends that are no longer with us because of addiction.

As I listen to Somebody's Someone, I'm reminded of the struggles faced by those battling addiction, and the impact it has not only on them but also on their families. People dealing with addiction often carry a heavy stigma, which can make them feel isolated or judged. This song serves as a powerful reminder that they are, somebody's someone — they are loved, cared for, and deeply missed by their family and friends.

🎉Congratulations Taylor & Tyler!🎉

Yes, these amazing young men are twins. We celebrated their graduation from the program last week. They entered this program with heavy, searching hearts, and it has been both a joy and an honour to witness their journey. Watching them grow and seeing their beautiful personalities unfold has been truly inspiring. Both are incredibly hard-working, kind, caring, and respectful individuals. Their presence has made a lasting impact, and they leave with hearts fuller and stronger than when they arrived.

Taylor is staying in the area and has secured a job. He’s excited to take the next steps in his career and enjoy time with his family.

Tyler is going home with his family for a bit, then returning to the area for work. He is looking forward to starting work as he likes to keep busy.

We are excited to see what the future holds for both Taylor and Tyler. As they begin this next chapter in their lives, we want them to know that God is always with them—and they can call on Him at any time. Their presence on campus will be deeply missed. From their bright smiles to their warm morning greetings, they’ve left a lasting impression on all of us.

🎉Congratulations Margery & Ezelle!🎉

Both lovely ladies have graduated from the Rising Above program. We have watched them grow in their faith and become beautiful women of God. These ladies showed up every day, through tears and deep hurts within their souls. Yet, they persevered, doing the hard work of healing and growing.

Margery is excited to be moving into our second-stage housing. She plans to return to PRBI to complete the education she began, and she's looking forward to building a healthier, happier life with her beautiful family.

Ezelle has secured a place to live and is starting a new job. She's ready to embrace this exciting new chapter and live life to the fullest.

As they step into the next chapter of their journey, we want to remind them that their strength is not only in the struggles they’ve overcome but also in the bright future they are now building. God has equipped you both with resilience, wisdom, and grace. Your journey is a testament to His love and faithfulness, and we are excited to see how He will continue to work in your lives.

Here at Rising Above when we are not hard at work on a beautiful day we like to be outside in the sunshine!☀️On Friday Chance and Manuel had a scooter race in the parking lot in front of the campus. Manuel hit the curb on the far side and had technical difficulties with his scooter, so he got up and ran the last little bit!

Chance was declared the winner!🎉

Today we celebrated two participants Graduating from the program!

🎉Congratulations to Eddie and Jakob🎉

The journey has been filled with both ups and downs—good days and tough ones. They have both worked through some hard things that have been holding them captive and stealing their joy. But through it all, we’ve had the privilege of watching these two incredible young men grow, heal, and come alive during their recovery.

Eddie has begun full-time with Ballad Consulting Group to further his workplace experience and develop skills to help him enter the work force. He is excited to continue his pursuit of a meaningful career. Eddie will be transitioning to Rising Above second stage as he continues his journey of recovery.

Jakob has secured a full-time job in the Grande Prairie area and is ready to take on new challenges and opportunities. He will be staying with family for a while as he continues to grow and start his next chapter.

We are so proud of how far they’ve come and can’t wait to see what they accomplish next! May God bless you both as you continue the good work you have started here at Rising Above.

Our Story

Rising Above started as a small men’s recovery center in 2007 in downtown Grande Prairie. Our focus at the time was on those who were facing chronic homelessness and addictions. Since the beginning, we have based our 6-Month Residential Treatment Program on our H.E.L.P.S model (Housing, Employment Readiness, Life-Skills, Personal Development, and Spiritual Formation). By using this model, countless people have embraced recovery and learned vital skills to help them integrate back into society and go on to lead happy and healthy lives.
