✨Grad Update✨

We are pleased to give an update on a former participant who came to the class last week to share his journey and inspire our current participants. We enjoy these moments when former participants come to invest in the journey of others. 💙

Matt started his recovery journey after losing his sister to addiction. He didn't want his parents to outlive another child, so he asked for help. He said "I came to Grande Prairie for treatment, but I've found a new way of life here, thanks to my time spent at Rising Above." Matt has taken the Addictions and Community Support Worker program at Heritage College. He is now working full time, as he looks for a way to use his education to give back to the recovery community.

🎉Special Guests🎉

Every year for Valentine’s Day, CFA Church blesses our Rising Above participants in such a special way. They host a pizza party filled with pizza, pop, chips, and—most importantly—fellowship. 💙

They don’t just provide a meal; they sit, visit, laugh, and truly connect with our participants. It’s a beautiful time of community-building and strengthening church connections. 🤝

We are so incredibly blessed by their continued kindness and generosity. Thank you, CFA Church, for loving and supporting our Rising Above family so well!

✨Special visit✨

Last week we had the pleasure of welcoming chief of staff for the Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, R-Jay Melnichuk, Yvonne Carignan Executive Director of MHA and Tom Mountain to tour our new building and a sit down about partnerships. 🤝

The recovery community in Grande Prairie is extensive, and behind the scenes we are all working together to break cycles of defeat. We are asking, “How can we improve our connections, communication, and continuum of care?”.

We would like to thank our special guests and our addiction recovery community for their partnership and support: Northern Addictions Center, and The Salvation Army Grande Prairie.
just to name a few.

☕Director's Meeting💙

It’s rare to see every Executive Director smiling in a meeting—but when our work is rooted in our faith and service, joy follows. We don’t do this for ourselves, but for those we serve through faith in Jesus. We are truly blessed.

✨Graduate Update ✨

Recovery doesn’t end at graduation—it continues quietly, faithfully, one step at a time. Every so often, one of our former participants reaches out just to say, “Here’s how life is going now.” This is one of those stories:

Here’s a glimpse of that ongoing journey 💛

I am Caitlin, and I am Rising Above.

Before Rising Above, I was in and out of prison so many times, it started to feel like home. I had to come to the realization that it was not who I was hanging out with and who I was living with that was the problem. I was the problem and I needed help. The turning point for me was when God entered my life. I will keep trusting God to carry me up and up and up and give me the strength and courage to overcome any obstacle that comes my way. 💙

HWD Construction Ltd. A big thank you to everyone involved in this project! This is amazing, what was once a sketch on paper is now a reality. 💙💛

Our crews and trades have been working through the big snowfall and cold temperatures on the Rising Above project which is now 70% complete. Painting is well on the way and flooring to start next on the upper floors. Hats off to our site supervisor Dean for keeping things rolling.

Our Story

Rising Above started as a small men’s recovery center in 2007 in downtown Grande Prairie. Our focus at the time was on those who were facing chronic homelessness and addictions. Since the beginning, we have based our 6-Month Residential Treatment Program on our H.E.L.P.S model (Housing, Employment Readiness, Life-Skills, Personal Development, and Spiritual Formation). By using this model, countless people have embraced recovery and learned vital skills to help them integrate back into society and go on to lead happy and healthy lives.
