📖A Heartfelt Thank You to our Church Partners! 📖

We are deeply grateful for the generous donation of 50 Gideon Bibles to Rising Above.

Thanks to Jasper Baptist Church, and a friend of Rising Above from McLaurin Baptist Church, we have been able to restock our resources shelves with more Bibles. Our friend knew our need for Bibles and heard about the Bibles while attending a conference in Jasper. She packed up her car on her way home.

These Bibles are made available free for the taking on our two resource shelves, alongside devotionals, journals, and other materials that support our participants on their journey of recovery.

For many of the men and women we serve, having access to God’s Word becomes a source of comfort, clarity, and strength as they heal from trauma and build new foundations for life. It is the foundation for our program and ministry. These gifts will bless countless individuals seeking encouragement, direction, and hope.

Thank you to both Jasper and McLaurin Baptist Churches for partnering with us to bring Hope Beyond Brokenness and for sowing seeds of faith that will make an eternal impact. 💙

💙✨ Celebrating Mel: A Legacy of Hope, Healing & Changed Lives ✨💙

Today, the Rising Above staff gathered to celebrate Mel Siggelkow — not his retirement, but the incredible season of leadership, vision, and compassion that brought Rising Above to life and shaped thousands of stories of hope.

Our time together was filled with memories, laughter, and more than a few tears as we shared stories of lives transformed, families restored, and moments when Mel’s steady faith carried this ministry through challenges and into new seasons of growth.

We are grateful beyond words for Mel’s obedience to God’s call, his unshakeable belief in people, and the countless ways he has poured his heart into breaking cycles of defeat and building Hope Beyond Brokenness. His legacy continues — not ending, just expanding — as he carries this mission across communities in Canada.

📖💙 A Heartfelt Thank You to anonymous donor! 💙📖

We are deeply grateful for the generous donation of 50 Gideon Bibles to Rising Above.

While attending a conference in Jasper, dear friend from Mclaurin Baptist Church came across Jasper Baptist Church's Gideon Bible's and their hope to find a good home for them. She knew our need for more to fill our shelves and packed up her car on her way home.

These Bibles will be made available free for the taking on our two resource shelves, alongside devotionals, journals, and other spiritual materials that support our participants on their journey of recovery.

THIS WEEK, Rising Above is honoured to join Recovery Alberta, the City of Grande Prairie, and the Grande Prairie Storm in highlighting the importance of addiction awareness and the many supports available in our region. 💙

Addiction impacts every part of community life — but recovery is real, and hope is closer than many people think. This week is about reducing stigma, sharing resources, and reminding individuals and families that they never have to walk this journey alone. Together, we're building a community that sees, supports, and stands with those seeking a fresh start.

✨ A Beautiful Night of Generosity! ✨

Last night, Rising Above was honoured to be invited by the Northern Spirit Light Show to receive a blessing of food donations from their amazing visitors. We are so grateful! 💙

This Christmas season, you’re invited to enjoy a magical winter drive or sleigh ride through the stunning light display — complete with hot chocolate and festive treats — and bring a non-perishable food donation to support the men and women in our recovery program.

Food donations go a long way in helping our participants make ends meet each month while they focus on healing, growth, and breaking cycles of defeat. Thank you for shining hope into their journey!

NEXT WEEK, we’re proud to stand together with Recovery Alberta, the City of Grande Prairie, and the Grande Prairie Storm hockey team to shine a light on addiction awareness and recovery supports available right here in our community. 💙

Addiction affects individuals, families, and communities — but recovery is possible, and no one has to face it alone. Together, we’re working to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and connect people to the help they need.

Over the years, Kim has served in several different roles, each time bringing her warmth, wisdom, and compassion to those around her. 💙 Hope Looks Like This!

With the help of a $200,000 Capital Grant (2024–2025), the County of Grande Prairie No. 1 has done some heavy lifting for us in Rising Higher. Because of their support we are closer to completing our new facility — a place that will provide safe housing, life-skill training, and spiritual healing for those on the road to recovery.

Every brick, every room, and every life changed reflects the power of community support. Together, we’re building a future of healing, independence, and restored purpose.

🚧 Building Update! 🚧

We are thrilled to share that HWD has poured the cement for our curbs and sidewalks! Every line, every pathway, every foundation being set represents one more step toward welcoming men and women into a place of hope, healing, and transformed lives.

As we watch these new paths take shape, we are reminded of God’s promise in His Word:

“In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” — Proverbs 3:6

Just as these sidewalks guide footsteps toward a new beginning, God faithfully directs and steadies the path of every person who walks through our doors — leading them from brokenness to restoration, from uncertainty to purpose, and from addiction to freedom.

Thank you to our supporters, partners, and community for walking this journey with us. We’re not just building a facility — we’re preparing a path of hope.

Our Story

Rising Above started as a small men’s recovery center in 2007 in downtown Grande Prairie. Our focus at the time was on those who were facing chronic homelessness and addictions. Since the beginning, we have based our 6-Month Residential Treatment Program on our H.E.L.P.S model (Housing, Employment Readiness, Life-Skills, Personal Development, and Spiritual Formation). By using this model, countless people have embraced recovery and learned vital skills to help them integrate back into society and go on to lead happy and healthy lives.
