SAFETY TIP SUNDAY
Winter Travel Safety Tips – Be Ready Before You Hit the Road!

Winter in Alberta brings unpredictable weather, icy roads, and fast-changing conditions. A few extra minutes of preparation can make all the difference in getting you to and from work safely.

✔️ Check Your Route:
Review road conditions, weather alerts, and detours before leaving. Adjust your plan—don’t rush.

✔️ Prepare Your Vehicle:
Top up fluids, clear snow/ice fully, check tire pressure, and keep a winter kit with blankets, batteries, and traction aids.

✔️ Slow Down & Drive to Conditions:
Increase following distance, avoid sudden movements, and stay alert for black ice and reduced visibility.

✔️ Pack for Delays:
Bring water, snacks, warm clothing, phone chargers, and emergency contact info—especially for remote travel.

✔️ Communicate Your Plan:
Let someone know your route, expected arrival time, and check in if conditions worsen.

Stay safe, stay prepared, and make winter travel a planned part of your workday—not a risk.

SAFETY TIP SUNDAY

🚧 Working at Heights: Inspect. Anchor. Protect. 🚧

Inspect Your Gear: Before climbing, always check harnesses, lanyards, and anchors. 77% of fatal falls in Alberta’s oil & gas industry were from heights between 2002–2023.
📊 Source: Energy Safety Canada – Occupational Fatalities Report

Anchor with Confidence: Improper anchoring is a leading cause of system failures. Falls represent 4% of all occupational fatalities in Alberta’s oil & gas industry.
📊 Source: Energy Safety Canada – Occupational Fatalities Report

Fall Arrest vs. Restraint: Arrest stops a fall in progress, while restraint keeps you from reaching the hazard in the first place. Many incidents happen when the wrong method is chosen. Slips, trips, and falls are among the top 3 causes of workplace injuries in Alberta.
📊 Source: Alberta OHS – Lost-Time Claims Data

Bottom line: Check your gear, trust your anchor points, and use the right system. Prevention at heights saves lives.

Don’t let worn or faulty gear add to the statistics!

SAFETY TIP SUNDAY

🚨 Confined Space Safety: Test. Ventilate. Monitor. 🚨

Test Before Entry: Oxygen below 19.5% or the presence of H₂S, CO, or methane can be deadly. On average, ~100 confined space fatalities occur annually in Canadian workplaces.
📊 Source: WorkSafeBC – Hazards of Confined Spaces

Ventilate & Purge: In 90% of confined space rescues, the original entrant suffers a medical emergency due to atmosphere change. Proper ventilation prevents secondary casualties.
📊 Source: WorkSafeBC – Confined Space Safety

Monitor Continuously: Even after initial testing, conditions can shift rapidly. Energy Safety Canada reports that many Potentially Serious Incidents (PSIs) are linked to gas buildup after entry.
📊 Source: Energy Safety Canada – PSI Report October 2024

👉 Bottom line: Testing once isn’t enough. Ventilation and continuous monitoring save lives. Always follow confined space protocols — no shortcuts.

SAFETY TIP SUNDAYS

🔥 Training & Drills: Why Practice Saves Lives 🔥

Regular training isn’t optional — it’s life-saving.
In high-risk industries like oil & gas, emergencies don’t come with a warning. Workers face hazardous environments daily — from H₂S exposure to confined spaces, trench work, or working at heights. In those moments, hesitation or uncertainty can mean the difference between a safe outcome and a tragedy.

According to Energy Safety Canada, many Potentially Serious Incidents (PSIs) in the sector could have been prevented if workers and rescue teams had practiced response drills under realistic conditions. Training prepares crews to act decisively under pressure, rather than losing valuable time figuring out what to do.

At 911 Industrial Response, our instructors don’t just teach safety — they live it. With decades of field experience, they bring real-world knowledge, continuous mentorship, and a passion for building strong safety cultures into every class.

✅ More Than a Certificate – Our training goes beyond checklists. You’ll gain the confidence to apply your skills in high-stakes situations.
✅ Industry-Specific Mentorship – Learn how to navigate the unique challenges of oil & gas, construction, and industrial sites with guidance from seasoned professionals.
✅ Hands-On Scenarios – Each course includes realistic, stress-tested simulations designed to prepare you for emergencies when seconds count.

This means when you choose 911 IRL, you’re not just getting coverage — you’re getting a team that trains harder, prepares more, and treats safety as the priority it is.

👉 Emergencies don’t wait. Neither should your training.
