To The Point Acupuncture, Grande Prairie, AB.

To The Point Acupuncture, Grande Prairie, AB. Dr Kari Pettersen, Dr. Ac Kari is a Registered Acupuncturist with the College and Association of Acupuncturists of Alberta (CAAA).

She graduated from Grant MacEwan University and shortly after returned home to Grande Prairie. She started her business in 2012 and has been practicing in the Grande Prairie for 9 years; she is looking forward to expanding her business in the future. Kari has a passion for travel, adventure and connecting with others. After high school she worked in the service industry while attending Grande Prairie Regional College and traveling around the world. It was through travel that she experienced the healing capabilities of acupuncture. While surfing in Nicaragua, she was stung in the arm by a stingray, resulting in nerve damage and debilitating pain. After a year of taking medication the pain was still fluctuating so she decided to seek out other therapies. Acupuncture helped ease her pain to the point that she could get off her nerve medication and after 10 treatments the pain was gone. It was through her own experience with acupuncture that led her to continue on that path to a career. Forever a student, she has several certificates in sports medicine acupuncture as well as fertility and hormonal acupuncture. Her goal to continue her education to become more specialized in obstetrics, gynaecology and fertility in 2020. She has recently completed the A to Z Guide to Using Acupuncture in Pregnancy and Childbirth Course as well as the course 12 Points for Restoration and Balance Approach to Trauma Treatment. Currently she is taking the course Acupuncture Strategies to Dramatically Improve IVF Success. In addition to acupuncture courses, she has also completed a certificate in Tuina Massage and Moxibustion for Menstrual & Fertility Issues. She became interested in fertility and hormonal acupuncture when she helped her first fertility patient conceive. After that, many women and men started seeking her help and she saw a huge need in the Grande Prairie area. Helping women and men to feel their best and achieve their goals of having a family has been a huge drive in her passion to continue her specialization.

Interested in Cosmetic Acupuncture? Here is everything you need to know, including that it is covered by insurance!

By Kari Pettersen What is cosmetic acupuncture? Cosmetic acupuncture is a more healthy, natural looking approach to beauty. It is the use of tiny needles in the face, body and ears to reduce the signs of aging or help with conditions like acne, acne scarring or inflammatory skin conditions.

How does trauma get stored in the body?

We have a system that works so hard to keep us alive. If we do not allow ourselves to feel and have a toxic or life-threatening experience ( real or perceived) move through us, the body will find a way to store that experience someplace that reduces that interaction with that challenge.

This is great if we are, say, running away from a tiger and cannot deal with the emotions. Once we feel safe we can access and process those emotions. The problem happens when we never feel safe or make time to feel. We then create a problem of latency or hiding the problem, so do not have to deal with it directly or immediately. Once hidden in the body we use our energy and resources to keep this trauma hidden. This can cause chronic pain and other issues.

Chinese Medicine can be used to determine where the latency was created, release it and help reclaim those resources. The less we hide from ourselves, the more access we have to who we are and why we are here. Releasing the latency caused by self preservation is like lifting the veil that obstructs our ability to see the truth of our humanity.

I am an integrative practitioner, meaning that I like to use both western and eastern knowledge to try to get you the best results.

Where Chinese Medicine shines is that it is holistic. Holistic means that we look at the bigger picture of what might be causing an issue like diet, lifestyle, etc. and try to treat the root of the problem.

I love sharing my knowledge in blogs in both western and eastern knowledge to help my patients understand both while explaining how acupuncture can help.

Can Acupuncture help morning sickness?

The answer is yes!

Acupuncture has been shown to greatly improve how women feel when it comes to morning sickness. It may not completely take the morning sickness away but it can give women the relief that they are seeking.

Even really sick women find that after acupuncture they can tolerate a little more food or a little more fluids after treatment. Don’t just take my word on it. There are lots of great studies that show that acupuncture has a positive effect.

This study by Carolyn Smith https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1046/j.1523-536X.2002.00149.x showed increased improvement when acupuncture was done when compared to sham acupuncture or no acupuncture. This study also further proved that acupuncture is safe in pregnancy when there were no more negative birth outcomes, congenital abnormalities, pregnancy complications and other infant outcomes than the sham and no acupuncture groups.
