The MTAA is pleased to announce that we have had confirmation from the Alberta Government that effective January 18, 2021, there will no longer be a requirement for massage therapy clients to get a prescription or referral in order to access massage therapy services. Massage therapists can return to their regular practice with respect to booking appointments with clients.

The requirement for a prescription/referral for a massage treatment has been extended till Jan 21. You can get a referral from your Chiropractor or Physiotherapist. You can also get a prescription from your doctor or online from Babylon by Telus health.

I will open back up Monday. My clients will need a referral or prescription before booking an appointment.

An existing written prescription is only valid if issued within the last 12 months.

An existing written referral is only valid if issued within the last 12 months.

A copy of the original written prescription or written referral is acceptable.

A referral can be from any regulated health professional

The health Minister announced today that they worked with Dr. Hinshaw to
"grant an exemption to allow massage therapy services for patients or clients with either a prescription from a physician or a referral from another regulated health professional"
