As a special focus of Economic Development Week, we're going to shine a spotlight on the incredible women entrepreneurs who make up 21.5% of all businesses in Saskatchewan! To kick things off, let's get to know Erica Waldenberger, the owner of Wildflower Lymphatic Therapy.
Erica's Story
I have been a Licensed Practical Nurse since 2013 and obtained an advanced certificate in Perioperative Nursing, with distinction, in 2018. I have had the opportunity to work in many different areas of health care including internal medicine, neurosciences, and surgery. With an increasing desire to work with patients one-on-one and to be able to assist with their healing more directly, I obtained my certification in Manual Lymph Drainage and Combined Decongestive Therapy from the Dr. Vodder International School in Vancouver, Canada in 2022, with advanced level III training in the treatment of lymphedema and chronic edema.
Lymphatic therapy, also referred to as manual lymph drainage, is beneficial for people suffering from swelling and inflammation. It is used to treat several different conditions, such as lymphedema, osteoarthritis, acute orthopedic injuries and headaches/migraines to name a few.

When did you start your own business and why?
I started my business in October of 2022 because I saw a need for more resources in rural Saskatchewan. I also wanted to be able to help people on a more one-on-one basis.
What do you enjoy most about running your own business?
The thing I enjoy most about running my own business is being able to help people directly. As an independent business owner, you get to decide how to provide services in the best way to meet people's needs.
What advice would you give to others who want to start a business in a small town?
Some of the advice that helped reassure me the most was to be patient because it takes time to build clientele--even if you want everything to take off right away.
