I am often asked, “What is that cracking sound?”
The answer is: Our joints (where two or more bones meet) are enveloped in a capsule. Inside this capsule is the synovial fluid, the liquid that lubricates and enables our joints to move freely. When an adjustment/manipulation is performed, the joints space is opened slightly leading to a formation of gas bubbles in the synovial fluid and that is when we may hear a "popping" sound. You will not always hear this sound, but that does not make the adjustment/manipulation more or less effective.
