We back baby! 🏃🏼‍♀️

Running has always been my favourite activity. It clears my head like no other, and leaves me with a “glow” feeling all day (that super red face eventually fades 🍅).

It’s so nice to see that how I’m feeling in my runs again 1 year post partum matches the fitness gains I’m seeing. I lost running around 5 months into my pregnancy as it cause me wayyyyy too much pelvic pain. On the other side I was extremely lucky to have been able to start back up around 2 months post partum despite having a c-section. 💉 🔪

Running is different now. I’m either pushing an extra 25lbs (stroller and little man), or fitting it in between work, baby time, and food/house prep. I’m not pounding the pavement as often as I use to, but honestly, my joints are thanking me. 🦴 🩵

Pregnancy and post partum has taught me a lot of recovery, which really I already knew but chose not to follow sometimes 🤷‍♀️

Stay tuned for some tips and tricks on recovery and consistency post partum, because let’s be real, its a whole different ball game now 💛

Pre season concussion screening 🧠

After a concussion there is no way for you health professional to know what your pre-injury function is, baseline testing is done to establish YOUR norms and help with this! The testing consists of tests that stress multiple systems often impacted in concussion including:

▪️Balance
▪️Concentration
▪️Memory
▪️Coordination

It can be an integral part in making return to play decisions. Athletes of all levels can benefit from having this done every 1-2 years, from weekend warriors to the pros!

Give us a call or reach out if you have questions!

Great article outlining the state of nursing care in the province, when we need them more than ever.

For decades, nurses have been abused by patients and abused by the health-care system itself. Is it any wonder so many are leaving the profession, and just when we need them most?

Heading back to the gym this week? Here a few things you should consider after time off from your normal routine 🏋️‍♀️

1. Progressive overload. You don’t need to go back to the same weights. You have had some time off, and your body may not be able to lift what it did before this time off. Select your weights and increase as reasonably able, to avoid injuries which will further sideline your training 💪🏼

2. Allow rest days. Think about going every second day and doing full body workouts to avoid overtraining in the first two weeks back. Mobility work is always import too, you can work that in as a warm up or on rest days🧘

3. Get proper sleep and nutrition. This will help aid in your recovery as well as muscle growth 🛌 🍎

4. Enlist the help of a musculoskeletal specialist or trainer if your body and goals have changed since your last time in the gym 👩‍⚕️

5. Have fun, enjoy yourself, and be kind and courteous to other patrons! We have been missing gyms a lot the past two years, everyone is doing their best and showing up for themselves in the gym! 💕
