Self-injury (non-suicidal self-injury or NSSI) is when someone deliberately hurts themselves as a way to cope with overwhelming emotional pain — not to end their life.

Behind self-harm is often anxiety, depression, trauma, or difficulty managing intense feelings.

Every year on Pink Shirt Day, people in schools, workplaces and communities across the world reach for something pink as a quiet act of courage. That small choice sends a clear message about the kind of communities we want to build: places where people feel safe and respected.

The first Pink Shirt Day started in Nova Scotia in 2007 when two students organized their classmates to wear pink after a boy was targeted for his clothing. The idea travelled far. Today, Pink Shirt Day is marked in many countries and across Canada. The heart of it remains the same: ordinary people deciding that bullying will not go unchallenged.

Meet Ryan Hutton, team captain for Team GSPS 🚓

Ryan has been participating in The Push-up Challenge since it was first brought over to Canada in 2024. His commitment and enthusiasm towards The Push-up Challenge and mental health is what inspired us to bring his participation to the next level by creating the Police vs Fire Challenge!

The Challenge:

Each team aims to recruit at least 10 participants — but the bigger the team, the better! When the competition wraps up, we’ll tally the scores from their top 10 performers. The team with the highest total push-ups will earn ultimate bragging rights and be crowned the winner! Should the competition end in a tie, the team with the most funds raised will take the crown.

With an impressive 23 members recruited to their team, Fire is proving they’re more than ready to rise to the challenge.
