CMHA – Sudbury/Manitoulin joins the global community in recognizing World Mental Health Day on October 10th, a time to reflect, raise awareness, and advocate for mental health as a universal human right. This year’s theme, “Mental Health is a Universal Right,” underscores the importance of inclusive, compassionate care—and the vital role that lived experience plays in shaping it.

This year, we're highlighting personal stories from individuals with lived experience to honor the strength, resilience, and diversity of mental health and substance use journeys. These stories help break down stigma, foster empathy, and create space for honest conversations about recovery, healing, and hope. By sharing real voices and real experiences, we aim to build a more compassionate and informed community — one where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported 💚

____

This Mental Illness Awareness Week, Canadians are shining a light on a system that too often leaves people waiting, struggling or shut out altogether.

Mental Illness Awareness Week is an annual national public education campaign coordinated by the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health (CAMIMH). This year’s theme, Mental health and substance use health: a right, not a privilege, calls on all leaders and communities to ensure equitable access to care and support for everyone.

This morning, we were proud to walk alongside N'Swakamok Friendship Centre, and other community partners, in honour of National Day of Truth and Reconciliation 🧡
CMHA - Sudbury/Manitoulin observes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30.

This day asks us to honour survivors and commit to real action. For us, that means supporting Indigenous-led mental health programs, building partnerships and ensuring our staff have ongoing opportunities to learn about Indigenous histories, experiences and ways of being.

We encourage everyone to take time to reflect and support Indigenous initiatives in your community.

____

Today, September 25th, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Franco-Ontarian flag🎉

The flag was first raised 50 years ago (in 1975) right here in Sudbury at the University of Sudbury by Michel Dupuis, Gaétan Gervais, and a group of students. Designed as a lasting symbol of Franco-Ontarian culture, community, and pride, it carries deep meaning:

Trillium = Ontario
Fleur-de-lys = French language
💚Green = summer
⚪White = winter

Happy Franco-Ontarian Day! 💚🤍

____

Trillium = Ontario
Fleur-de-lys = Langue française
💚Vert = été
⚪Blanc = hiver

Joyeuse Journée franco-ontarienne ! 💚🤍
