Midwives of Sudbury

Midwives of Sudbury What is a Midwife? Registered Midwives She may practice in hospitals, clinics, health units, domiciliary conditions, or in any other service.» .

The World Health Organization defines a midwife in this way: «She must be able to give the necessary supervision, care and advice to women during pregnancy, labour and the postpartum periods, to conduct deliveries on her own responsibility and to care for the newborn infant. This care includes preventative measures, the detections of abnormal conditions in mother and child, the procurement of medical assistance and the ex*****on of emergency measures in the absence of medical help. She has an important task in health counselling and education, not only for the patients, but also within the family and community. The work should involve antenatal education and preparation for parenthood, and extends to certain areas of gynaecology, family planning and child care. The Midwifery Act is a component of the Regulated Health Professions Act, which was proclaimed on January 1st, 1994. A person may only practice as a midwife in Ontario if registered with the College of Midwives of Ontario. Midwifery care is publicly funded through the Ontario Ministry of Health, and there is no additional cost for women.

Dear Midwives of Sudbury clients of the past 18 years and current Midwifery clients. Due to various unforseen circumstances including a lack of Registered Midwives at the clinic and Midwives on leaves the practice will be closing as of March 15th, 2017. If you are a current client and have not yet received a letter or phone call, you will be receiving one shortly.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this sudden announcement has caused and we are doing everything we can to ensure our clients have a seamless transition into care with another provider. Sincerely, Midwives of Sudbury.

Breastfeeding facts from the World Health Organization --

01/12/2017

For all the mom's who formula feed their babies here is an excellent resource. As Midwives we support and assist women who Breastfeed and Formula feed. Information is key. Hope that this resource is helpful to women and families. There is absolutely no shame in feeding your baby formula if that is what you have chosen or if it wasn't your choice but your baby needed to have formula for medical reasons. Many women suffer from medical conditions that do not permit breastfeeding and thankfully there is another option to provide nutrients to newborns.

The document provides specific guidance on the most appropriate practices in the different steps during the preparation of PIF in these two types of settings. Cleaning and sterilization of feeding and preparation equipment is an important prerequisite to the safe preparation of PIF
