This healing chapter truly is still humbling me.
Pneumonia slowed me down in ways I didn’t expect.
What started as “just feeling unwell” turned into chest X-rays, heart testing, and multiple visits with my incredible healthcare team at NEOMO Medical.
I am so deeply grateful for thorough care, careful monitoring, and practitioners who truly listen.
Healing is requiring antibiotics, muscle relaxants, puffers, deep rest — and yes, receiving the very therapies I offer in my own practice.
From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, my presentation reflected Lung Qi deficiency with residual Phlegm-Heat obstructing the Lung, compounded by overexertion and depletion.
When we push past our reserves for too long, the body eventually whispers… then forces us to listen.
Moxibustion became a powerful ally in my recovery.
The gentle warmth:
• Helped tonify Lung Qi
• Strengthened Wei Qi (defensive/immune energy)
• Supported circulation to the chest
• Assisted the body in resolving lingering phlegm
• Restored depleted Yang energy after high fever and antibiotics
Receiving treatment instead of always giving it was a lesson in humility.
As practitioners, we hold space for others constantly — but we, too, must allow ourselves to be held.
And through it all, my gentle Great Dane rarely left my side. Animals have an intuitive way of sensing when we need stillness. Her quiet presence, steady breath beside mine, and unconditional love were their own form of medicine.
This chapter reminded me:
Rest is productive.
Slowing down is not weakness.
Healing requires surrender.
And even healers need healing.
To my patients — thank you for your patience and kindness as I move through this.
I will return with even deeper empathy for what it means to navigate illness while trying to maintain life and responsibility.
Health is not something we control.
It is something we tend to — with respect, humility, and care.
