It was after the birth of their own children that the passion for supporting women through labour was ignited for these two friends.

Meg Davey founded Sudbury Doula Services back in 2014 after she completed her Doula Certification through DONA International. Inspired by experiencing having a doula present for her birth first hand, Emily Lamb knew that she wanted to join Meg on the path to supporting women in the Sudbury area. Together, they are offering a unique experience for their clients. They are offering themselves. Instead of practicing like the traditional doula who works alone, these ladies offer clients each of their unique experiences and knowledge. They do their prenatal appointments together so that clients have the opportunity to get to know both doulas and build relationships. This way, clients are not only comfortable with who attends their birth, but they get to know their back up doula as well. They originally came to this idea by being cared for by midwives themselves for the births of their children. They found that getting to know a team of primary care providers really benefited them in their pregnancy. They wanted to give that same comfort to their clients. Both doulas have had very different experiences during the births of their children. Meg was induced for all three of her children, resulting in a Caesarean with her first, and two VBACs (Vaginal Birth After Caesarean) one of which was an assisted delivery. Emily was induced for both of her children as well and had the experience of an easier induction with her first followed by a much more intense experience with her second. Both doulas breastfed their babies and have had to troubleshoot different issues, giving them a great deal of experience and the means to support moms who hope to breastfeed as well. The list goes on, but they truly feel that offering a unique two-for-the-price-of-one doula experience will give their clients a fantastic opportunity to learn, grow, and feel empowered during pregnancy, labour, and the transition into parenthood.

Imagine how intense hunger must feel when you’ve only ever known complete satisfaction...

Imagine how lonely a crib must feel when you have only ever experienced the cramped tight embrace of your Mama’s womb...

Imagine how deafening silence must be when you have never not heard the beating of your Mama’s heart...

Let’s all have grace and patience for the babies as they adapt to life in the big wide world. These first few months should not be a race to be separated as soon as possible. This season too shall pass 🌿

As 2021 is soon coming to an end I am announcing the closing of Sudbury Doula Services. This isn’t a decision that I have come to lightly. I have loved my clients that have become friends with that I’ve had the privilege of working with during the last 7 years of working with the community. My passion is still very much all about empowering families through education during their pregnancy in preparation for labour and the transition into parenthood!

In 2022 I will be launching my new business “ The Nurtured Journey “ where I will be working as a virtual birth coach supporting families emotionally and educationally on a global scale.

This is not at all where I envisioned my journey going but I am very excited to grow this new business in the times we are currently facing! 💕

It has been a LONG time since I’ve posted in here!!! For the last year and a half I have not been able to attend births due to COVID and our local hospital changing their support person policy ( changing from 2 support people per birth person to 1).

I have been supporting clients virtually for the last year and have been really focusing on education and preparing their partner to take on as much of a doula role as they feel comfortable to insure everyone still felt supported and empowered! I have been blown away at the determination and resilience so many couples have had during this pandemic, because I know this isn’t exactly what they envisioned when they pictured having a baby! They didn’t picture being told not to see family, to be in lock down and to feel isolated. I have also adapted my role to being whatever support they feel they need and have noticed a trend of that being more of an emotional support leading up to the birth to help release their anxieties and as well in postpartum to help with the transition with baby at home.

Currently our hospital policy has returned to normal so I will be able to accept clients who are wanting a doula present at their birth but because I have also seen first hand the benefits of helping clients virtually I will be keeping both services available!

Changes are happening at Sudbury doula services since I’ve had to adapt my business to these challenging times so I will update that when I’m able to as well!!
