The Zagime Anishinabek Election Act, 2025, comes into force as of May 12, 2026. This milestone paves the way for the membership to approve the Zagime Anishinabek Governing Council Act, which will set out the rules of conduct for the elected Council.

UPDATE ON WILDFIRE OF May 13TH

On behalf of all the residents of Zagime, thank you to everyone who showed up to assist with the landfill fire last night. At approximately 9:30 PM we were alerted to a fire at the construction site of the solid waste transfer station.

Thank you to Michael Kardash and crew from the Grenfell Fire Department, Landyn Bobb and crew from the Kahkewistahaw Fire Department, and the Cowessess Firefighters. While the Grenfell Fire Department contained the fire, the Kahkewistahaw Fire Department worked on spot fires North of the landfill fire.

Zagime Firefighters also attended the fire. Thank you to our Public Works crew and our volunteers. Adam and Colby Peepeetch were able to smother the fire with heavy equipment once the Grenfell Fire Department doused the site and cooled it down. Zagime Firefighters stayed to monitor the site for flare-ups.

Firefighters risk injury to protect your community. We are all grateful for their courage and dedication to community safety.

Please talk to your children about fire and fire prevention. Homes, people, and our relatives, the animals are at risk when wildfires break out.

The fire ban remains in place until further notice. No fires are permitted at this time. Please extinguish ci******es properly and do not throw lit ci******es to the ground or out of a vehicle window.

Fire Ban in Effect!
Date: May 14, 2026
Due to the extreme fire risk in Southern Saskatchewan, a Fire Ban is in effect for Zagimē, Shesheep, Little Bone, Minoahchak and cottage areas on Crooked Lake.
Dry weather and high winds make the conditions ripe for runaway grass fires.
This ban includes open fires on the ground and closed fires in containers or barrels. Please do not throw lit ci******es on the ground or out of vehicle windows.
Respecting the fire ban prevents the loss of animal habitat. In particular, animals have their young in high grass and wooded areas. Grassfires also endanger people and houses.
Be fire aware at all times! Thank you!

The Driver Training Program is now being opened up to members living on-reserve who are not on income assistance. Individuals who are not on income assistance can contact Wanda Sangwais at 306-697-2315 to apply through the Labour Force Development Program. All fines must be paid in order to sign up.

The Zagime Anishinabek Pow Wow Committee is inviting Nations and families who wish to host a special during the Zagime Anishinabek Pow Wow taking place July 23–25 to come forward and register their special.
