As an early post on this page I have to pay homage to Andrew Taylor Still. This is the man that created and developed the Science of Osteopathy. In the late 1800’s Dr. Still embarked on a mission to provide care to anyone who needed it, in a safe manner that aligned with his logic, reason and immense understanding of the body. Originally a medical doctor, Dr. Still found success with the use of manual manipulations to return a patient to health by adjusting their structure to order, asserting that “order and health are inseparable, and that when order in all parts is found disease cannot prevail”(Philosophy of Osteopathy - 1899). He was a man far ahead of his time, when hardships in life were the norm. He held firm to his reason amidst the massive pressures imposed on him by others who did not believe in what he was doing. Against incredible opposition he introduced to the world a method of healing which attracted thousands upon thousands of individuals from all over the world in a time where there weren’t even planes. This is the man that started it all, he provided a foundation for the profession I am proud to be a part of; through which, I hope to be a benefit to those who come to me when they are in need as so many did back in the days of Dr. A.T. Still.
