Today my family is moving through a really tender transition. I’ve been reflecting on so many of the lessons I talk about in my work and try to live in my own life. We said goodbye to our dog, Myles, and even in the heartbreak I am reminded of how these moments teach us about love, connection and what it means to be human.

Moments like this pull everything into perspective. They slow you down, almost forcing you into presence, asking you to notice what actually matters. Myles has been part of our story for so long and in his own quiet way he reminded me of the simple things we often forget, the things I encourage clients to return to, the things that anchor emotional wellness.

He taught me that love is made in the everyday. It is not the grand gestures. It is showing up. It is choosing presence. It is gratitude tucked inside the small things like snuggles on the couch, playful chaos in the kitchen or just sitting beside someone who makes you feel safe. These are the moments that regulate us, ground us and bring us back to ourselves.

Grief asks us to hold our tenderness with care. It softens the edges enough for us to feel what we would normally rush past. As I honour this chapter with Myles, I am reminded that sadness and love can live side by side.

If you are moving through something heavy too, I hope you give yourself permission to feel all of it, to slow down, and to trust that healing often happens in the quiet in between moments.

With love, Danielle 🐾 🩵🌈

As a therapist in the Niagara region, I love seeing community initiatives that strengthen mental health support for families. Project PLAID by Pathstone Mental Health is one of those programs.

It not only raises awareness about child and youth mental health in Niagara, it also supports the parents I often work with, helping them understand what to look for, how to access services and how to feel less alone in the process. When caregivers have clearer pathways to support, it reduces stress, builds confidence and creates a healthier foundation for the whole family.

At Maple Mindset, I see every day how important accessible resources and community care are for parents navigating anxiety, overwhelm and emotional load. Project PLAID is another meaningful step toward a Niagara that prioritizes mental wellness for everyone.

To learn more, visit Pathstone Mental Health or search Project PLAID to explore their work and community impact.

I’m beyond grateful to share that Maple Mindset was awarded First Runner Up for the Rising Star New Business Award at the Grimsby Chamber of Commerce Business Awards!

This recognition means so much, not just for me as a Registered Nurse Psychotherapist and female entrepreneur, but for the heart behind Maple Mindset. When I started this journey, my dream was to create a space in Grimsby where millennial women could come home to themselves, find connection, and feel supported in their healing, growth, and self-discovery.

To be recognized among so many inspiring Niagara businesses is such an honour. 💛

A huge thank-you to the Grimsby Chamber of Commerce for celebrating local small businesses, and to my incredible clients, family, and community who continue to believe in what I’m building here at Maple Mindset.

Here’s to continuing to grow, connect, and bring compassionate, holistic therapy and wellness to our community.

Today is World Mental Health Day, and instead of sharing stats or slogans, I wanted to share something a little more personal.

My own mental health story hasn’t been a single “aha” moment. It’s been a slow, often messy journey through burnout, self-doubt, and learning how to make space for me again. As a nurse, therapist, mom, and business owner, I spent years tending to everyone else’s needs before realizing that my own care wasn’t optional, it was essential.

There were seasons where I felt heavy, disconnected, and unsure of who I was outside of being useful.

Therapy, reflection, and slowing down taught me that I don’t have to earn rest or worthiness and that healing doesn’t always look like progress. Sometimes it looks like pausing, crying, or starting again.

If you’ve been carrying more than most people realize, please know this, nothing about you needs fixing. You’re human, doing your best in a world that asks for too much.

✨ Today, I hope you give yourself permission to feel, to rest, to ask for help, and to honour your mind with the same compassion you offer everyone else.

Your story matters, too. 💛

Much love towards you in your journey,
Your rooted & real human therapist
Danielle

Running on caffeine and chaos? Your nervous system has entered the chat.

Here’s why →
⚡ Sympathetic mode (fight/flight) = your body on high alert.
🌿 Parasympathetic mode (rest/digest) = your body’s calm gear.

Daily life keeps us stuck in stress mode more than we think. Unread emails, traffic, juggling the invisible load, your body reads it all as danger.

Because your nervous system is primitive, it doesn’t always know the difference between a lion chasing you and 50 unopened emails. Think of it like old software, it needs check-ins and updates.

When you pause (a few breaths, a body scan, a gentle reset), you remind your nervous system: we’re safe, we’ve got this.
And that’s how you move from wired + tired → grounded + calm.

Your body tells a story too. Therapy helps you learn to listen, not just push through.

Do you notice yourself more often in ⚡ fight/flight or 🌿 rest/digest these days?

Why is it that the second we sit down to rest, our brain pipes up with:
‘You should be folding laundry.’
‘You should answer those emails.’
‘You should be productive.’

Sound familiar? 👀 That’s the invisible load talking.

In ACT, we remind ourselves that thoughts are just thoughts. You can notice the guilt, take a breath, and still choose rest.
✨ Rest isn’t laziness.
✨ Rest isn’t selfish.
✨ Rest isn’t earned only after you’ve done enough
Rest is part of being human. And you are allowed to take it.

Drop a 🛋️ if your brain tries to guilt you out of rest too. Let’s normalize choosing rest anyway.

These are the moments that feel like alignment for me as a therapist. Its like when the puzzle piece finally clicks into place and the picture starts to make sense. 🧩

It’s not about dramatic breakthroughs or quick fixes.

It’s the quiet shifts, the steady practice, the moments when someone feels more like themselves again.

These puzzle-piece moments aren’t just for other people, they’re possible for you too.
If you’re ready, let’s talk about what support could look like together.
