Why not incorporate biking as a daily activity!! 🚲
Physical activity is declining worldwide, due to reductions in active commuting like walking or cycling.
Active commuting has been recommended as a practical way of incorporating more physical activity into daily life.
Biking is a cardio workout where 400 calories can be burnt in an hour with strengthening of lower body muscles. It’s also an excellent core work out.
A meta analysis done reported that active commuting was associated with a lower risk of adverse cardiovascular outcomes.

Research shows that Regular cycling cut the risk of death from any cause by 41%, and the incidence of cancer and heart disease by 45% and 46% respectively.

The major findings of another large-scale study were that those who used the bicycle as transportation to work experienced a lower mortality rate.
Those who did not cycle to work experienced a 39% higher mortality rate than those who did.

A Statistics Canada survey found that 66% of people who cycle or walk to work are “very satisfied” with their commutes. However, only 32% of car commuters say the same, and for public transit users, it’s even less, at just 25%.
More physical activities are needed! Biking or walking to work should be part of a daily routine whenever it’s possible to do so.

In naturopathic medicine there are lot of modalities to choose from while making treatment protocols for patients.
Eg: Lifestyle modifications, Nutrition and diet, botanicals, supplements, IV therapy, Bioidentical Hormones, cupping, Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture etc.
Having worked as anesthetist in the Maldives and in Canada and having seen Anesthesiologists using acupuncture for pain at Hamilton Health Sciences, I was naturally drawn to acupuncture while studying naturopathic medicine. .
Acupuncture is amazing for pain. However it’s equally and more studied and used in many more other medical conditions as well. .
‘The current studies of acupuncture suggest that acupuncture can help with:

Blood circulation
Metabolism
Gastrointestinal motility
Heart rate
Blood pressure
Immune function
Acupuncture also produces endorphins, block pain signals going to the brain and reduces the occurence of muscle spasms.’
Talk to your Naturopathic Doctor for a Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture protocol for you.

Exercising before breakfast burns more fat!

Skipping the meal before exercise also made the men's muscles more responsive to insulin, which controls high blood sugars, thus reducing the risk for diabetes and heart disease.

“ A new study, now appearing in the British Journal of Ophthalmology, has found a link between a diet rich in unhealthful foods and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

AMD is a condition that impacts the retina with age, blurring central vision. Central vision helps people see objects clearly and perform everyday activities such as reading and driving.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in the United States, around 1.8 million people aged 40 and above are living with AMD, and another 7.3 million have a condition called drusen, which usually precedes AMD.

The CDC also explain that "AMD is the leading cause of permanent impairment of reading and fine or close-up vision among people aged 65 years and older."”.

Lack of sleep or not sleeping enough can decrease the function of the brain to deal with complex mental tasks.

Sleep is needed to repair, detox and rejuvenate the body.

A good habit is to go to bed early to get that 7-9 hours of sleep needed for an adult.

Age group Recommended amount of sleep:

Adults: 7 to 9 hours

Newborn: 14 to 17 hours a day
12 months: About 10 hours at night, plus 4 hours of naps
2 years : About 11 to 12 hours at night, plus a 1- to 2-hour afternoon nap
3 to 5 years : 10 to 13 hours
6 to 13 years: 9 to 11 hours
14 to 17 years: 8 to 10 hours

Fish are good source of protein and Omega 3 Fatty acids. However Mercury levels in Fish seems to be rising due to pollution and overfishing.

Mercury is most notable for its neurological effects in general. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration says that too much mercury can cause:

anxiety
depression
irritability
memory problems
numbness
tremors

It’s advisable to limit consumption high mercury containing fishes. eg Swordfish, King mackerels, Tuna etc.

Low mercury containing fishes like Salmon, anchovies, sardines, Haddock, Herrings, catfish: 1-2 serving per week would be ideal.

Mercury levels in fish are measured as parts per million (ppm). Here are the average levels in different types of fish and seafood, from highest to lowest:

Swordfish: 0.995 ppm
Shark: 0.979 ppm
King mackerel: 0.730 ppm
Bigeye tuna: 0.689 ppm
Marlin: 0.485 ppm
Canned tuna: 0.128 ppm
Cod: 0.111 ppm
American lobster: 0.107 ppm
Whitefish: 0.089 ppm
Herring: 0.084 ppm
Hake: 0.079 ppm
Trout: 0.071 ppm
Crab: 0.065 ppm
Haddock: 0.055 ppm
Whiting: 0.051 ppm
Atlantic mackerel: 0.050 ppm
Crayfish: 0.035 ppm
Po***ck: 0.031 ppm
Catfish: 0.025 ppm
Squid: 0.023 ppm
Salmon: 0.022 ppm
Anchovies: 0.017 ppm

Anxiety, depression or any other mental health issues cannot be treated successfully unless brain chemical imbalances, nutrition, exercise, spirituality and counselling is not part of the treatment plan.

Examples of some foods to avoid in any chemical imbalance in the brain.

Over the past few years, I've endured a series of unforeseen events.
