The Health2Work Program is helping people to return to work in Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo. Dr. Amy Brown, Health2Work Practice Lead and OCA Chiropractic Consultant, spoke with Troy Bridgeman of Cambridge Today to highlight the benefits of the program.

“There are a number of people receiving support from Ontario Works that are unemployed because they have injuries,” said Brown. “They aren’t working which means they don’t have benefits and they have limited incomes so they can’t afford to pay-out-of-pocket for care to help address those issues.”

People who qualify for the Health2Work program are entitled to 10 sessions with a chiropractor. “The goal of this program is to help people address those [spine, muscle and joint] issues,” said Brown. “We identify what those issues are and help find a management plan to get them back on track.”

The innovative Health2Work program expanded from Cambridge into Kitchener and Waterloo in January 2025 to help more Ontario Works clients access fully funded chiropractic care to support their transition to training and employment opportunities.

Health2Work Practice Lead and OCA Chiropractic Consultant Dr. Amy Brown spoke with Bill Doucet from The Waterloo Region Record about Health2Work’s recent expansion into Kitchener and Waterloo. The aim is to get those people who are able to work, employed. Brown said there is a stigma around people on Ontario Works, with the thinking they just need to go out and get a job. Through the evolving Health2Work program, chiropractors provide fully-funded treatment and guidance to help people receiving social assistance alleviate their spine, muscle or joint pain, so they can work or enter job-related training.

“The reality is that a chunk of this population, the reason they’re not working is because of an injury. Frustratingly, some of those injuries were sustained while they were working and didn’t have adequate support to deal with that injury while they were working,” Brown said, adding what people are making on Ontario Works isn’t enough to pay for regular chiropractic services.

“It’s a frustrating loop because the injury is what’s preventing you from working, but you can’t address the injury in our current health care system.”
