As I finally sit down here at the end of the night thinking holy WHAT A WEEK, I think I may go stir crazy. I can't help but think of all the other mamas out there feeling the same. A bit spent, exhausted, but absolutely in love with there littles. COVID-19 has brought on alot of change and with that change remember to think of you. Don't forget to practice self care and carve out a little me time. Either picking up a good book, having a virtual coffee with a friend, or locking yourself in the bathroom for a couple min 😜. Remember to breathe through this and give yourself some time.

So to the mamas who wake up and kiss their littles bye while they go out to help the community, you are SUPER and thank you! To the mamas figuring out how to balance working from home and fighting their kids boredom, you are SUPER. To the mamas who are homeschooling and running their businesses from home, you are SUPER. To the new mamas just figuring their littles out, you are SUPER and I'm here to help. You all are Super Moms, Super Women, and Super Stars

The holidays can be a special especially if this is your littles first, but can also become quite busy.
Remember to slow down so you can be more in tune with your little one.
Some tips to help with this are:
- Breastfeed or pump frequently. With the hustle and bustle feeds could be missed leading to plugged ducts, mastitis, engorement, or even low milk supply. We def don't want this happening so feed, feed, feed. Your little one may look to feed more often this is totally normal. If your little gets distracted easily find a quite place to relax and snuggle while you feed.
- Wearing your baby can help keep an eye on baby's feeding que's and keep you any baby nice and relaxed. As an added bonus baby wearing can keep your baby away from those cold weather germs🀒
-Stay hydrated and keep eatting. I can't say this enough look after yourself during the holidays and keep hydrated and fed, this can keep your milk supply strong and flowing.
-Ask for help. Please please do this. Don't worry if it doesn't go as you expected.
- Plan ahead. Pump if you opt to bottle feed for the day. Inform the guest you may need to have a quite room to feed.
And the most important is breathe. Have a stress free holiday!!!
Happy holidays mama's

With the holidays around the corner I'm looking forward to all the yummy treats I can get my hands on mmm πŸ˜‹.
That also means I better dust off those weights and start exercising.
Exercising not only helps keep the pounds off it can also be a great way to relieve stress. But don't worry about it's effect on your breastmilk. It doesn't effect your supply at all. The real culprit here is the dehydration and dieting that often goes along with exercising.
So mamas do your milk supply a favour and keep hydrated. Drink lots and lots of water while working out. For the food leave the dieting for later right now your baby and your body needs lots of nutritious food to keep producing that liquid gold. But few yummy snack don't hurt either. Try healthy fats like avocados and nuts, also try high protein foods like eggs to keep you milk supply going strong.

Happy exercising mamas! πŸ’ͺ

Don't let breastfeeding be a "Letdown." :P

Do you find your little one gagging, choking, and gasping at the breast? Does he/she pull off or clamp down on the ni**le at the signs of a letdown?
This may mean you have a forceful letdown. The above are only a few tell tale signs of this breastfeeding issue.
So what are you to do?
There are two ways to manage your let down:
1. Helping your little one deal with the letdown.
2. Adjusting your milk supply down to baby's needs
Let's discuss the first management for reducing your strong let down. ** please note the second management should always be done under the supervision of a lactation consultant and never to be explored before 2 months of age*** To help your baby adjust to your milk supply:

1. Positioning:
- Try positioning baby more up right or where the baby's head and throat are above the level of your ni**le. This is called "uphill nursing" - Laid back nursing is faboulous for this!

2. Burp:
- Burping more frequently can help releive all that air baby may be taking in
3. Frequent nursing: - This can reduce the amount of milk that accumulates between feeds

4. Nursing in a sleepy or relaxed state:
- Baby will suck gently at this time which may slow your milk flow

5. Wait for your letdown to occur: - Take baby off once you feel your letdown. Catch your let down in a cloth or haakaa and re-latch once the flow slows

6. Pump before feeds:
- I always suggest to use this as a last resort as it can stimulate more milk production - Try to reduce the amount pumped before each feed
This is only a summary of management methods for forceful letdown. If you are struggling to manage your letdown please contact me for assistance or your local lactation consultant

Happy Thanksgiving!

There are so many things I can think of to be thankful for. But above all I am so thankful for my two littles in my life. Some days can be a challenge but when I look at these two they give me so much joy and happiness in life!

I'm so thankful for becoming an IBCLC. Being able to reach out to mums and babies has been such a pleasure. I'm so glad to be helping dyads out there achieve their breastfeeding goals!!

What are you thankful for this year?

Happy Saturday Mamas!! Let's take a moment to talk about self care.
Self care is so important to incorporate into your daily routine especially when we need to be on the ready for our little ones. Weither it be 5 min to yourself or a day out with your girl friends make it a goal to care for yourself and take a moment to breathe.
We've had a busy fee days ourselves and my most favourite thing to do that helps me re-energize is taking a nice walk through the trails with my baby girl. Breathing in the fresh air and enjoying the outdoors with my little helps me keep my cup full for the day 🌞

Always keep your cup full mama's. Don't ever feel guilty spending time on yourself. You deserve it!

What's your favourite nursing tool? Let me know in the comments.

My favorite has got to be the haakaa pump. I absolutely love this thing and can't stop singing it praise. I wish I had one when breastfeeding my oldest. This simple silicone pump made to catch your letdown while breastfeeding can do so much more then that and I recommend every breastfeeding mum should have one.

I used to hate pumping. But hey all you breastfeeding mums know to have a little freedom it's good to have a milk supply built up. Being connected to a pump was the most annoying part of my day. The bulking device, the loud noise, the clean up afterwards, it just wasn't fun at all. But now with the haakaa I've built up a huge stash without even trying. It's quite, it's small(you can even throw it in your diaper bag to catch those dips. *Remember to take milk collection bags with you if you decide to do this*), it's one silicone piece making cleaning a breeze.

Not only can you use it to catch that extra milk (cause who wants to waste any of that liquid gold) but here are other ways you can use your haakaa pump
-- Use it as a piggy back pump with your electric pump
-- Get rid of engorgment when baby has slept too long
-- Stop dripping your precious milk after a nice hot shower and throw on a haakaa
-- Relieve plugged ducts by filling your haakaa with warm water and Epsom salts. The suction along with the solution will draw out the plug.

It's important you know how to attach your silicone pump for the best results. Keep swiping to get a visual

1. Clean and sterilize the pump
2. Fold back the fl**ge
3. Squeeze the base of the pump and position your ni**le in the center of the fl**ge
4. Fold fl**ge up on top the breast. Release suction for a tight seal
5. Watch that liquid gold flow

Are you using a silicone pump? Have you discovered another way to use yours? Let me know down in the comments!

One of the most common question I get from mama's are how do I know my baby is getting enough milk. With these four actions to look out for you don't have to always wait for baby's weigh in to see if they are getting enough.

At each feed you can pay attention to the following to help you know your baby is getting enough:

1.Listen: keep an ear out for the sounds your little one makes with feeding.
- You should be able to hear your baby make a soft "kaa" sound. This means your baby is swallowing!
- Another way to tell if your little one is swallowing is watching his/her jaw drop with each swallow. - You will get to know that your baby has a rhythm when feeding. It could go suck suck swallow or suck suck suck swallow. Every baby's rhythm is different and you may see yours switch between long drawn out sucks or quick fast paced sucks this is all normal.

2. Feel your breasts: Get to know how your breasts feel when they are full before a feed and when they are soft after a feed -- Before latching your little one for a feed feel how they feel -- While feeding gently message and compress your breasts this can help with the removal of milk. -- Your breasts should start to soften during the feed

3. Keep an eye on those diapers: by day five your little one should be producing about 6 wet diapers and 2-3 yellow seedy poopy diapers.
4. Your baby should be content at the end of MOST feeds. This may be seen by the appearance of your baby being "milk drunk". -- Now I say most feeds because there will be some feeds where baby may be unsettle and want to nurse more frequently. Don't panic that's fine -They are seeking comfort or sucking to aid with digestion. - They may have air in their tummy and the sucking might feel good. - Maybe they just want to be close to you because they love you! - But there should be some that make them sleepy
