The Ontario Animal Health Network (OAHN) has launched its companion animal survey to gather clinical impressions from May through August. If you're an Ontario veterinarian or registered veterinary technician practicing on companion animals, you’re invited to fill out the survey. To view the recent OAHN companion animal report, visit the OAHN website.

The OAHN Equine Network has launched its Q4 2025 (Oct-Dec) equine practitioner survey. This survey is open to all equine vets, RVTs, and clinic managers in Ontario, and is a place to tell us what you have been seeing in practice the past three months. Your responses are kept anonymous, and this data helps with Ontario equine disease surveillance. Click here to fill out the Q4 2025 Equine Practitioner survey:

🚨Speaker Highlight!🚨

After completing a Kinesiology degree at McMaster University, Christina discovered the field of veterinary physical rehabilitation—an area that perfectly blended her background in movement science with her lifelong love of animals. She went on to graduate from the Veterinary Technician program at Seneca College in 2015 and became a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner through the University of Tennessee in 2016.

Christina has more than seven years of experience in shelter medicine, working as a Registered Veterinary Technician at the Toronto Humane Society. There, she developed and led the shelter’s physical rehabilitation program, focusing on improving mobility, comfort, and function in some of the most vulnerable animals as they prepared for adoption.

She has a special interest in assistive devices and has worked as an animal orthoses and prostheses assistant at PawsAbility under the guidance of certified prosthetist Janice Olynich. Her dedication to comprehensive patient care led her to obtain the Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner designation through the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management in 2022. She is also a Fear Free Certified Professional, committed to supporting both the physical and emotional well-being of every patient.

Christina now brings her expertise in rehabilitation, pain management, and assistive technologies to the Toronto Veterinary Rehabilitation Centre, where she continues to help animals regain mobility and thrive.

Don't miss out on these amazing sessions! Register today!

The RVT Journal has been a trusted and reliable source of information that helps to educate OAVT members about veterinary industry trends, advance RVT knowledge, share research and new developments in animal health, and provide a convenient pathway for RVTs to collect continuing education credits.

As the publisher of this professional periodical for RVTs in Ontario, our goal is to provide you, our valued member, with relevant industry information, and allow you to connect with your professional community. Now, we’re making it easier for you to do that. Starting with the spring 2026 issue, The RVT Journal will switch to become an online-only publication.

Why switch now?
Given Canada Post’s rotating strikes, and the unreliable delivery they’ve provided over the past several years, we’ve decided that the time is right for us to make the switch. As a not-for-profit organization, keeping costs to a minimum for our members has always been a priority for our Board of Directors and the Association overall. Due to the rising costs of paper, printing, and postage, The Journal, in its current form, ends up costing the OAVT close to $30,000 annually to produce, despite any revenue generated through advertisements.

The benefits of online and mobile access:
We fully understand that we have members who will miss the screen-free, tactile experience provided by a hardcopy magazine. We, too, are sad to be putting our printed publication “to bed” for the final time, but the benefits of moving to an online format far outweigh the disadvantages:

• As a not-for-profit association, we want to be financially responsible, and environmentally conscious. An online publication will keep costs at a minimum, and a reduction in our paper and ink consumption will be a small way we can help Mother Nature.
• You can expect the same quality of educational content and convenient CE quizzes, but they will be easier to get. Online and mobile access mean you can read any issue of The Journal virtually anywhere, at any time.
• Articles and advertisements can include things like links, videos, and audio clips, which provide increased functionality to readers, the potential to interact with companies, and a more autonomous user experience.
• Costs associated with returned journals and the environmental impact of recycling them will become obsolete.

To make the switch, just log in to your Member Portal and click on the RVT Journal tab on the left menu and then click RVT Digital Edition.

As an association that is facing some momentous change, we see this digital switch as another opportunity for growth. We’re excited to embrace this new era of content sharing and hope you’ll enjoy all the enhancements and convenience it offers.

Our Story

Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs) are integral to the animal health care team. They are educated, credentialed and specialized to improve animal health and welfare in a variety of veterinary sectors.

The Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians is the professional association and regulatory body for all RVTs in Ontario.

To become an RVT in Ontario, an individual must: graduate from an OAVT accredited college, attend the OAVT’s Professionalism & Ethics Workshop, pass the VTNE (exam), and submit a clear criminal record check (more info on the steps to becoming Registered: http://oavt.org/membership/becoming-an-rvt/steps-to-becoming-an-rvt)
