The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital Transforming healthcare through giving. At Guelph General Hospital, every piece of equipment used in the direct care of patients comes from a community donor.

Not all essential costs are covered by government funding. Local community support is essential to the ongoing work of a hospital. Right now, you can join our record-setting $34 Million campaign which will address urgent needs. Your donation will help us expand our Emergency Department and include much-needed, dedicated spaces for mental health and addictions care. We will invest in new patient care equipment and technology, and we will upgrade our Special Care Nursery to support our tiniest patients, and their families. The Foundation is deeply saddened by passing of Bob Ireland — a remarkable leader who has left a lasting impact on the Guelph-Wellington community and Guelph General.

Bob's connection to Guelph General Hospital ran deep. Born right here at GGH, he would go on to become one of the hospital's most transformational supporters.

In the late 1990s, Bob chaired the Partners for Better Health Campaign, raising over $12 million for Guelph General Hospital and St. Joseph's Health Centre. He would later provide leading support of our MRI and More + Together We Care campaigns, ensuring the healthcare team had the equipment they needed to provide the highest quality patient care.

But Bob was more than a donor. He was a champion. He showed up with quiet, yet powerful, dedication and inspired a whole generation of community philanthropists to do the same. In 2024, we were proud to honour Bob with our Inspirational Philanthropist Award. It felt like a small gesture compared to what he gave us.

To Sharon, Rob, Brad, John, and the entire Ireland family — thank you for sharing Bob with all of us. He leaves behind a legacy that continues to impact the lives of countless patients and families.

A heartfelt thank you to the Wellington County Medical Society for their generous support. Using surplus funds accumulated over the pandemic, local physicians chose to give back to their medical community by funding two gynoscopes for surgery at Guelph General Hospital.

From her decades-long nursing career at Guelph General Hospital to her heartfelt volunteer work with The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital, Guelph-Wellington Women in Crisis, and the Children’s Foundation, Janet consistently shows up with compassion, dignity, and care.

Since joining us as a volunteer in 2019, she’s become a weekly source of warmth—connecting with donors, supporting events, and helping strengthen the community’s access to exceptional care.

Today, Janet was honoured with the 2025 Mayor’s Award: a well‑deserved recognition of her lasting dedication to others.
