*Health Alert - August 29th - Increase in Drug Poisoning Incidents*
The Wellington Guelph Drug Strategy is issuing a health alert - there have been at least 21 substance-related poisonings and one fatality in the past week. The current unregulated drug supply is unpredictably potent and may contain other substances, such as tranquilizers. This is contributing to a rise in drug poisoning incidents. Please exercise extreme caution when using unregulated substances.

Reducing Risk:
While the Consumption and Treatment Service (CTS) at the Guelph Community Health Centre (CHC) is now closed, strategies and supports are still available:
• Test your substances: Fentanyl, xylazine and benzodiazepine test strips are available from Sanguen and Wyndham House. Fentanyl test strips are available from WDG Public Health. A drug testing machine is also located at Guelph CHC at 176 Wyndham St. N.
• Carry naloxone: Naloxone is available and free at WDG Public Health, local pharmacies, the downtown library, and Guelph CHC.
• Avoid using substances alone: Call the National Overdose Response Services (NORS) at 1-888-688-NORS (6677) if you’re by yourself. Call before you use for phone monitoring and emergency support.
• Start low, go slow: Use only a small amount of any new or unfamiliar substance.
• Share substance use information and resources: More information can be found on the Wellington Guelph Drug Strategy and WDG Public Health and Here24/7 websites.

Please share and stay safe.

Curious about our new community-based medical centre? We get it – it’s exciting and maybe a little uncertain too. One question we’ve heard loud and clear is whether services will remain at the main hospital campus. The answer is … Yes! Once the centre is established, patients will be notified as to which location to attend for care.

Next week is first week of back-to-school season and Darlene needs your help with keeping kids safe when crossing the street. Remember:

1. Look left, right and left again before crossing the street
2. Make eye contact with drivers before crossing the street
3. Walk on sidewalks or paths when possible. If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic as far to the left as possible.

Safe streets save lives. The City of Guelph is lowering speed limits in neighbourhoods to help prevent serious injuries and deaths on our roads. It’s all part of the Vision Zero movement, because everyone deserves to feel safe getting where they’re going.
