Last night was the first annual Regional Awards Dinner for the Waterloo Wellington Region. Congrats to all the recipients of awards and recognition of hours given to SJA & the community from all of our SJA Community Services Units.

Special congratulations to Guelph MFR's own Vince for earning the first ever Regional Chair Commendation Award! 🎉 Vince has volunteered hundreds of hours at events across Guelph & Wellington County this past year. Vince also deployed to Peterborough and Winnipeg Manitoba this summer to support wild fire evacuation centres through SJA's Emergency Response program. Thanks for all you do for the community Vince!

Guelph MFR volunteers were up in Fergus this past weekend to support Centre Wellington SJA at the Fergus Scottish Festival & Highland Games. Our volunteers got to take in the rich scottish heritage of Fergus and its large and amazing festival.

Thanks to those who gave their time to help keep the Fergus community and all its many visitors from across Canada, parts of the USA & Scotland safe this past weekend!

Despite the risks of abduction by pirates or being seduced by cute animals, our volunteers had another great weekend out at this past long weekend. A yearly tradition our volunteers enjoy attending! Happy to report no legs or hands were lost.

Life-Saving Award!

Last night we were also privileged to recognize one of our MFR Volunteers with a Life-Saving Award for her role in helping to save a life last summer!

In July of 2024, while sitting at home, Stephanie was called on by a neighbour and asked to assist with a family member who had collapsed inside a home during a party. Stephanie went over and found an adult female unresponsive and without vital signs. Stephanie initiated CPR right away while waiting for first responders to arrive. Once first responders arrive and took over the compressions, Stephanie remained an active part of the resuscitation efforts, managing airway & ventilations until paramedics took over.

We can happily share that the outcome was the best possible for the female, a tribute to quick actions and early good quality CPR.

Stephanie has been with the Volunteer Medical First Response Unit of St John Ambulance Guelph since 2011 and has volunteered at events across Guelph, Wellington County, and other areas across southern Ontario.

Last night we recognized two volunteers for their long service to St John Ambulance and our community.

(1) Tara, a volunteer with our MFR Unit, was recognized for 25 years of volunteer service!

(2) A volunteer with our Therapy Dog program was recognized for 20 years of volunteer service.

Congratulations and THANK YOU to both our volunteers for their incredible dedication to volunteering.

Our volunteers had some fun out at The Great Lakes Medieval Tournament & Faire this past weekend.

Did you know St John Ambulance enjoys a rich history dating back over 900 years? During the crusades, The Order of St. John took on a more military role in addition to their hospital work, becoming the Knights Hospitallers. These knights were ment to protect pilgrims along the roads. The Maltese Cross used as their symbol on shields and banners is still used by us today as a symbol for The Order of St John.

🇨🇦That's a wrap on Canada Day 2025! Huge thanks to our volunteers who gave up their time to come out on this holiday to be of service to the Guelph Community. We met new friends and enjoyed several visits from new furry friends.

It turned out to be a great weekend for the 2025 .games Festival, which took place at the . Our SJA Guelph volunteers were out and about, supporting the spectators and athletes who came from across North America and beyond!

Definitely looking forward to the 2026 Festival!
