Acupuncture and Labour Induction ⁣

Many people have heard about acupuncture to induce labour. Is this really a thing? Sort of. There is promising evidence that acupuncture improves cervical readiness, and Bishop Score, indicating the body is more ready for birthing. ⁣
⁣
What about contractions? There are acupuncture points that can stimulate contractions, but if the baby is not in position, and the cervix is not ready, these contractions generally don’t go anywhere. ⁣
⁣
So, acupuncture is best used as birth preparation rather than “induction”. Treatments in the weeks leading up to birth can reduce late pregnancy physical discomfort, improve sleep, calm the mind and emotions as well as encouraging cervical ripening. ⁣

Even if a medical induction is needed, layering in acupuncture treatments, acupressure at home, eating dates, going for walks, breast stimulation, oxytocin releasing activities can all support the body before and even during induction at the hospital. ⁣

Get baby headed for the exit!

Quelle est LA raison de consultation pour laquelle nous avons le plus de références de la part des médecins pour un traitement d'acupuncture?

Pour aider à tourner les bébés en siège 🩷

La raison est simple, c'est parce que ça marche.

Oh, ce n'est pas magique à tout coup. Parfois, il y a des raisons excellentes pourquoi bébé est placé comme il est (lui aussi a son mot à dire sur la façon dont il veut naître)

Mais souvent, les bébés VEULENT tourner, il leur manque simplement de place, de liquide et/ou d'énergie pour le faire.

En acupuncture, on lui donne un coup de pouce pour les trois:

🩷 on relâche la musculature et les ligaments du bassin et de l'utérus,
🩷 on aide à augmenter la quantité de liquide amniotique,
🩷 on aide à sécreter de l'adrénaline pour que bébé aie un rush d'énergie pour l'aider à se placer.

Les études parlent de 72-85% d'efficacité, ce qui veut dire qu'après les traitements, 72 à 82% des bébés en siège étaient placés la tête en bas (versus 34-44% si on fait simplement attendre sans intervenir)

Et les protocoles utilisés dans les études sont plus simples et moins complexes que ceux que Julie Mitchell-Ricard Acupuncture, périnatale, fertilité et hormonale et moi on utilise en clinique, donc notre pourcentage d'efficacité est encore plus élevé que ça ☺️

Yes! Symphysis p***s pain responds so well to acupuncture! And no, needles won’t go *there*.

The same technique used to turn a breech baby can also help with a baby in posterior position. We can treat later, as only a wee pivot is needed, not the whole somersault.

I’m excited to be joining the team at Guelph Prenatal Massage! Starting in March, I’ll be there offering acupuncture for relief from pregnancy discomfort, encouraging breech babies to head for the exit and doing labour preparation treatments, plus more!
