Laura integrates cupping into both her Osteopathy and Athletic Therapy sessions as a gentle but powerful way to support circulation, reduce tension, and help the body reset.

Cupping isn’t just for backs and shoulders 👀 She also uses facial cupping — including along the jaw — for clients dealing with TMJD, jaw tension, headaches, and stress-related clenching. By improving local blood flow and decreasing myofascial restriction, facial cupping can help calm irritated tissues and restore more comfortable movement.

Big things coming 👀

Tristan is currently in school for acupuncture and will be incorporating neurofunctional acupuncture into his RMT sessions starting this summer.

So what does that mean for you?

Neurofunctional acupuncture works with the nervous system to help reduce pain, improve muscle activation, and restore movement. It can be especially helpful for MSK injuries and conditions like persistent pain, muscle inhibition, post-injury weakness, and movement limitations that just won’t clear up with hands-on work alone.

When combined with massage therapy, it adds another powerful tool to support recovery, performance, and long-term resilience.

🏉 Rebuilding for the Contact | ACL Rehab Journey 💪

This varsity University of Guelph rugby athlete began her ACL rehabilitation after an injury sustained in summer 2025, followed by surgery in October 2025.

Her recovery has been guided through a collaborative approach, with treatment and progressions aligned between Guelph Performance and her U of G team therapy staff to support a seamless return-to-sport pathway.

Now several months post-operation, rehab has moved beyond the basics and into performance-focused work:
✔️ Full knee mobility and joint control
✔️ Progressive lower-body strength under load
✔️ Early plyometrics and field-relevant movement patterns
✔️ Sport-specific strength for contact, deceleration, and repeat efforts

While rugby does not permit brace use during match play, a custom ACL brace is being used strategically during rehabilitation and strengthening phases. This allows her to build confidence, tolerate higher training loads, and safely progress rugby-specific drills — without relying on the brace long term.

Access to Guelph Performance has removed barriers to consistent training and allowed rehab to mirror the physical demands of varsity rugby, all while staying aligned with her team.

This phase is about developing strength, resilience, and trust — not shortcuts.

He now has an awesome combination of skills as a triple credentialed RMT, R.Kin and Athletic Therapist, and has evening availability!

🦅 ACL Rehab in Action | Story 🦵💪

Since September 2025, Teagan has been working closely with Emily on her ACL rehabilitation journey — starting with a comprehensive pre-surgical strength program and baseline testing using the EasyForce dynamometer, all to set her up for success before surgery in October.

Now 3 months post-op, Teagan is crushing milestones:
✔️ Full knee range of motion
✔️ Strong early-stage strength
✔️ Plyometric progress (yes, hopping!)
✔️ Functional training like dynamic lunges, advanced step-ups, squats & deadlifts

These movements are key as she prepares to return to her physically demanding role in wildlife management at the airport, where she works alongside falcons and hawks to keep aircraft safe while supporting the ecosystem 🦅✈️

A huge part of her success? Access to the Guelph Performance gym, removing barriers to consistency and progression. She’s also been fitted with a DonJoy Defiance Pro custom ACL brace, giving her added confidence as she returns to work and sport.

Emily has gone down the rabbit hole lately, learning about feet, gait, and most recently orthotics!

She is now able to assess and provide custom orthotics right here at Guelph Performance!

But.... (And this is a big but)

She might not think they are the best idea for you.

For a long while, orthotics were proposed as being required for almost everyone with a history of foot knee or back pain, and even sometimes as a "preventative" intervention!

The science has changed a lot though, and Emily is ready to share that with you!

So if you're interested, book an assessment. Emily will discuss all of your specific factors, assess your body and feet, look at how you walk (or run or jump), and then if it's a good idea for you, she will get you set up with your custom orthotics.

She might also recommend exercises, footwear choices or other things that can help you!
