I don't think we are ever leaving......

But seriously, latter winter can be hard! Spring feels just around the corner....yet takes forever to come. Our bodies feel the impact of the lack of sun, we brace against the cold temperatures and pout about the next shovel.

Our moods dip and impatience rises.

That's why it is extra important to find small ways to bring in connection, enjoyment and lots of cozy vibes.

And what better way than immersing yourself in the Heated Rivalry world!? It sure has infiltrated our cottage! 🤭😂

What if for one moment you paused and opened up to the magic of winter?

I really get this time of year is hard for so many of us! For very legitimate reasons.

And, what if for one moment, it wasn't hard?
What if your breath slowed down and your eyes scanned the sparkles of the snow? What if you looked up to the moonlight before tucking in for the night? What if you took a moment to hear the crunch of the snow under your feet?

There are moments of magic in winter ready to be experienced.

We have crossed the threshold into the second half of winter. Hope is in the air as the days get longer and spring gets closer each day.
Yet, we are still in the deep of winter.
And there is magic here.

Let's not miss the magic of winter as we pine for spring.

This is actually how it felt when I moved up north.
I walked into the unknown.
I said goodbye to the citylife, and started walking onto a blank canvas of a new lifestyle.

And, it was terrifying.

So many times I wanted to go back to the familiarity of the city, or fill the space with planning, ruminating or escaping.

It is hard to lean into the nothingness during a change.

That is why it is so important to practice being with nothingness during the winter months.

It helps me remind me that it isn't a threat, but an important pause before new growth can emerge.

And, now that I'm entering my second year, I can feel the roots of the new growth!

Have you been going through major change and loss?

How can you let winter's wisdom support you during your change?

I'm also opening up my therapy practice to specifically hold space for people moving through transitions. If this is you, I'm happy to explore how i can be a support in the unknown.

Also--this is a taste of what can be sent directly to your inbox. Letters of the Wild is a monthly newsletter that is full of my reflections, insights and seasonal wisdom.

Just call me the all season mermaid! I love frolicking in all forms of water!!

I want to officially announce that I have decided to cancel this year's Winter Rest Retreat in Guelph.

I was gearing up to plan it when I realized my body was telling me this it not the season for output. It is the season to winter. To slow down, reflect and rest.

It feels like walking into the unknown by saying no to the retreat. This would have been the 4th year. I love running it and others have valued the space. So, my rational mind thinks I'm crazy for doing this.

Yet, the deeper whisper of winter says it is time to walk into the spaciousness and quiet of winter and trust something more will evolve in another season.

Thank you to all who have attended in the past and I look forward to more in the future. But? Right now, I'm Wintering.

What about you? How are you Wintering?

It is so easy to miss the magic of winter when it also demands a lot out of us to clear the snow off our driveways. Yet, even for a moment, can you pause and notice the wonder of winter?

What's your favourite part of winter??

The obsession is real, friends- even for us therapists. The way the show captures how to people thaw out their protective walls and land softly into each other's hearts and arms is so beautiful to witness, again ....and again! 🤭
Some healing balm in this world of destruction and division right now.
Thanks from a Canadian therapist!

No matter what the holiday season looks like for you, may there be small moments of peace, play and connection. Even if it's for a fleeting moment, may something deeper inside soften and rest.
Happy Holidays Wild Ones!

Quote by Katherine May in her book, Wintering.

I am looking forward to finding my new rhythm as we enter winter. More gentle strolls, cozy nights by the fire, reading and writing. I love cross country skiing, sitting at the window when the sun shines in and drinking hot cocoa.
What nourishing activities do you do over the winter?

As I sat and watched the sunset on the Eve of Solstice, I watched the world around me darken. And, as the world darkened, the sky glowed in beautiful pinks and purples.

This reminded of the importance of the interplay between darkness and light. And the Solstice wisdom that light comes from within the darkness. May we hold this hope as we traverse the barren void of winter.

Happy Solstice Wild Ones!

As the sun stands still, we move into the longest night of the year. A time to enter into the quiet of the darkness with the promise of light to come.

I have found marking the Solstice with ritual and reflection an important way to remind me of the importance of darkness in my own life. Because, even, the times where I feel lost in the pain of darkness, I can be reminded light does return.

Darkness is a catalyst for change and renewal. Sometimes, we intentionally chose new chapters in our lives that enter us into the darkness of the unknown. Sometimes, life throws us in when we least expect it and our whole lives can feel upside down.

May the wisdom of the Solstice guide your dark seasons and may you find a flicker of light as we traverse the unknown.
