Twelve years ago I knew very little about autism, despite my experience supporting young adults with intellectual disabilities in a camping program and being newly graduated from naturopathic college.
I’ve learned a lot in the past decade but here’s the quick version.
Autism isn’t just little boys who use a limited vocabulary and don’t make eye contact. The autism spectrum is much broader than that.
Yes, it is true that those children are autistic and they (and their families) need a lot of support.
And, not understanding the full spectrum of autism prevents clinicians from being able to recognize autistic traits in their patients.
Unfortunately, this creates an environment where some patients are being misdiagnosed and under supported.
However, there is an easy fix. We can all learn more about autism.
And it does NOT need to take you a decade
This past December I shared an update on autism spectrum disorder for a group of hundreds of clinicians so they could better see and support the Autistic folks in their practice.
And on April 22nd, I’m offering a free workshop to help you do the same
Understanding Autism Today
đź—“Wednesday April 22nd EDT
Because when we are specific in our understanding, we can find better solutions.
Reserve your spot in the workshop at the link in my bio.
I hope to see you there!✨
