VUE Cubed Vision Therapy

VUE Cubed Vision Therapy VUE Cubed Vision Therapy is a unique facility devoted to vision therapy rehabilitation using cutting edge technology & individualized treatment plans

At Guelph Vision Therapy Center, we all wholeheartedly believe that every patient has the right to reach their natural potential and have the highest quality of life possible. By listening, interacting and connecting with each patient as an individual, our multi-disciplinary team of professionals strives to find customized solutions to previously unsolvable problems - whether the patient was born with their issue or it was acquired later in life. The gift of sight is a fundamental part of interacting with the world around us. Being able to connect with and experience our environment requires more than simply reading 20/20 during an eye exam. Even with annual routine eye exams, many issues and struggles can persist without being recognized and therefore, untreated. These issues impair the way we function in our environment and more than likely negatively impact someone's quality of life. The foundation of proper visual function starts with overall muscular coordination, moves through the use of the eyes as a team and ends with the brain interpreting what it sees. In fact, there are connections between the visual system and over 40% of the brain. Integrating health care professionals familiar with all portions of the involved systems is the key to success. Every system is interrelated and none can exist of function in isolation. By going through the systems one step at a time the proper foundation for clear, comfortable vision and information processing/learning can be established, where solely glasses and other treatments may not work.

It could be that their hand-eye coordination needs a boost.

When the eyes and hands aren’t working smoothly together, kids can struggle to:
🔹 Catch or hit balls
🔹 React quickly during sports
🔹 Feel confident on the field

The good news? You can help strengthen this skill at home—and make it fun.

Try this: Bean Bag Toss
Toss a bean bag into a laundry basket or a taped square on the ground.

Ready to level it up?

✨ Fun twists to build coordination:

🔸 Balance on one foot while tossing
🔸 Say the color of the bean bag out loud before throwing
🔸 Toss with one hand while pointing to the target with the other
🔸 Try tossing while stepping side to side or walking forward

With regular practice, you’re not just helping them catch better—you’re building focus, timing, and confidence too.

“She thought she was stupid. She wasn’t.”

She just needed vision therapy.

Mandy’s daughter wore glasses—but still couldn’t read in Grade 2.
After starting therapy at VUE, everything changed.

Now she’s in Grade 9, on the honor roll, full of confidence, and advocating for herself.

Vision therapy didn’t just fix how she sees. It helped her believe in herself.

When kids spend hours on devices—especially during the school year—their eyes and brain work overtime to focus at close range, often without breaks. This can lead to:

👀 Eye fatigue
💢 Headaches
📚 Trouble focusing on schoolwork
😣 Increased frustration or meltdowns

Summer is the perfect time to give the visual system a break.

✨ Try this:
🔹 Swap one hour of screen time for outdoor play.
🔹 Take nature walks—eyes naturally relax when they look far away.
🔹 Set up a no-screen picnic or backyard story time.

Even short breaks from screens can help reset tired eyes and give the brain space to recharge. Plus, you’re building connection and calm—something we all need more of.

Does your child struggle to aim, throw, or judge distance in sports?

It might not be a coordination problem, it could be a vision skill that needs support.

Peripheral awareness and visual reaction time are key to success in team sports like soccer, basketball, and hockey. These skills help kids:

• Track fast-moving objects
• Stay aware of teammates and opponents
• React quickly without losing focus

Try this fun summer activity to boost their skills:
“Side Swipe Challenge”

1. Have your child look straight ahead while you stand slightly behind and to the side.
2. Toss or flash an object into their side view and have them call out its color or shape—without turning their head.

To increase the challenge: use smaller items, switch sides quickly, or add background noise for distraction.

These games might look simple, but they’re training the brain and eyes to work better together—and that builds confidence on the field.

This fast-paced game might seem simple, but it actually challenges important visual skills, like focus, tracking, and how quickly the brain can process what the eyes see.

If your child avoids the game, takes a long time to find matches, or gets upset while playing, it could be more than just not liking it. These might be signs of a visual processing difficulty.

The good news? Playing games like Spot It can help build those skills, especially with regular practice over the summer.

✨ Try these fun twists to support their visual development:
> Use a timer to encourage faster focus.

> When your child finds a match, have them say the name of the matching symbol out loud. This supports brain-eye coordination and language processing.

>Add movement—after each match, do a jump or balance on one foot for extra challenge.

> Switch roles—let your child be the “coach” and explain how you should find the match. This boosts confidence, language, and perspective-taking.

Summer is a great time to grow your child’s skills through fun, low-pressure activities. And best of all, you’re building connection at the same time.

Parenting is hard, and we want the best for our kids. You’ve tried what feels like everything. But nothing sticks.

You’re not alone. And you’re not failing.

Sometimes, the issue isn’t effort—it’s something hidden, like a vision challenge affecting how your child processes the world around them.

Ask yourself:
Does my child avoid reading or say it makes them tired?
Do they guess at words instead of sounding them out?
Do they get frustrated when learning something new?

If any of this sounds familiar, it might be time to look beneath the surface.

Visual Processing vs. Eyesight: They’re not the same!

The term ’20/20 vision’ ONLY means that you can see clearly at 20 feet away.

Your child might see 20/20 but still struggle with reading.

Here's why. https://www.vuetherapy.ca/

Being diagnosed with a visual processing disorder or pediatric concussion doesn’t mean the same thing for every child. In fact, there is a wide range of
