👋 Meet Emily, a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department at West Haldimand General Hospital (WHGH).
It’s National Nursing Week, and we’re proud to spotlight Emily, a nurse who helps patients feel cared for during some of their hardest days.
Emily joined WHGH in July 2025 as a newly graduated nurse and now cares for patients of all ages in the Emergency Department.
She says great patient care is often found in the small actions that can make a big difference during a stressful moment.
“It’s recognizing when someone needs a tissue, extra reassurance, or more questions answered,” she says.
“Sometimes we even make improvised shoes for patients if they don’t have any to go home with.”
Emily says helping patients feel calmer and more comfortable is one of the most meaningful parts of nursing.
“It’s memorable when patients and I can find the humorous side of things together,” she says. “Laughter can be really good medicine.”
Working at WHGH also carries personal meaning for Emily.
“My great grandma worked here for a lot of her nursing career,” she says. “It’s fulfilling to feel like I am following in her footsteps while giving back to the same community I grew up in.”
This year, Emily was also nominated for the Kelly Currie Nursing Excellence Award, which recognizes nurses who demonstrate compassion, leadership, and commitment to patients and the community.
Thank you, Emily, for the kindness, compassion, and care you bring to patients and families at WHGH. We’re so fortunate to have you on our team. 💜🙏😁
Happy National Nursing Week!
