👋 Meet Jimmy, a Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) technician at West Haldimand General Hospital (WHGH).
MDR may not always be visible to patients, but it is absolutely essential. Without sterile instruments, procedures cannot happen. MDR technicians like Jimmy make sure every scalpel, scope, and tray are safe to use. Their work protects patients and keeps hospitals running smoothly.
Jimmy joined the MDR team in February 2024 and quickly discovered how critical this work is. “We as a team help keep the hospital running smoothly, said Jimmy. "Without sterile and clean instruments every procedure grinds to a halt. Basically, we are part germ assassins, part quality control heroes.”
Before becoming an MDR technician, Jimmy spent eight years as a pharmacy delivery driver. It was his brother-in-law, Mike, who encouraged him to make the switch. “He had been pushing me to do this for years,” Jimmy explained. “I was just comfortable where I was. I’m glad I finally gave in. The only thing I regret about being a MDR is that I wish I did this a lot sooner.”
The role comes with pressure, but also pride. ““Every instrument we handle has zero margin for error. One missed spot or one shortcut could put a patient at risk,” Jimmy shared. “But the best part is having the satisfaction of precision, setting up a perfect tray, catching damaged instruments before it gets back to the floor and just knowing that before the day is done, I know that I did something that mattered.”
At WHGH, patient care depends on the skill and focus of Jimmy and his MDR team.
Thank you, Jimmy, for bringing such care and commitment to everything you do. 😁👏💪
