Huguette was born on June 17, 1946, in St-Emile-de-Suffolk, Quebec, to Lionel and Marcienne Carriere. She was the sixth of fourteen siblings. The family moved from Quebec to Uno Park when she was two years old.

Huguette was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Ray; her brothers, Michel and Richard; and her sisters, Denise (Roger) and Micheline (Dan). She is survived by her sisters: Lise (Gerard), Ghislaine (Raymond), Claudette (Jerry), Nicole (Roy), and Francine (Edouard); her brothers: Guy (Huguette), Jean-Claude, Gaetan (Maryse), and Andre (Brigitte); her sons, Derek (Megan) and Jody; her grandson, Hunter (Amanda); and many nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law.

In 1965, she met the love of her life, Ray McChesney. They were married in 1969 and spent 54 loving years together. She was a compassionate, caring, and devoted mother to two boys, Derek and Jody.

Huguette spent ten years working for Northern Telephone, both as an operator and in the office. She then took time away from work to raise her family. When the boys were both in school, she began a 25-year career at the Temiskaming Hospital, first working at the switchboard, then as a secretary/receptionist in both the Laboratory and Radiology departments.

Her two sons were heavily involved in baseball and hockey. She spent countless hours travelling across the country and enjoyed every minute of it. Huguette was very outgoing and always up for an adventure. She enjoyed snowmobiling and travelled coast to coast on the back of Ray's motorcycle. Together, they toured North America in their motorhome—camping, attending NASCAR races, and taking in all the sights along the way.
She was an avid sports fan, enjoying curling, hockey, and baseball. The Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays lost a superfan.
Huguette was a proud member of the New Liskeard Lioness Club.

A beautiful soul—always willing to help those in need, loving, caring, and with a smile that could light up any room. She will be deeply missed by all.

Forever in our Hearts.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, September 6th, 2025 at Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church, New Liskeard.

With profound sadness, the family of David Benjamin Zabudsky announces his passing on July 10, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
David was born on February 21, 1938, to John and Kathryn Zabudsky in Sudbury, Ontario. He was the first of five siblings. David was predeceased by his parents, his sister Joyce, and his brother Ron. He is survived by his brother Paul and sister Laura, his sons Jeffery and Jonathan, daughter Jennifer, and grandchildren Avery, Alison, Olivia, Samantha, Sarah, Joshua, Wyatt, and Payton—plus one great-grandchild, Mavis.
David chose to live and raise his family in the land he loved: Northern Ontario. In his trade as a bricklayer and stone mason, Dad leaves behind a legacy of structures, such as the retaining wall outside the OPP office in Kirkland Lake and the stone wall at the amphitheater in Esker Park.
He was an avid outdoorsman and felt right at home in the bush with his chainsaw—or on the water with his fishing pole, exploring countless lakes and rivers. He could also be found picking blueberries (which he mostly gave away) or puttering around his mining claims in search of the mother lode.
Dad made his home on Wendigo Lake for 40 years and loved it dearly. The family would like to express deep appreciation to the Wendigo Bay community for their care and support of Dad throughout those years. He treasured your spontaneous visits immensely.
His quiet charm and quick wit brought many laughs and deep conversations to family, friends, and neighbors. Dad lived by the golden rule—to treat others as he wished to be treated—and as a result, he forged many deep and lasting friendships. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered as a true gentleman.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to the exceptional team at Blanche River Health in Englehart for their thoughtful and compassionate care during Pop's final days.
"The Lord bless and keep you;
the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace."
—Numbers 6:24–27

In Loving Memory of Sharlene Fortin (née Weiss)
January 20, 1951 – July 10, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sharlene Fortin (née Weiss) on July 10, 2025, at the age of 74. A woman of deep compassion, quiet strength, and boundless love, Sharlene leaves behind a legacy of kindness and warmth that touched countless lives.

Sharlene was the beloved wife of Leo Fortin, with whom she shared 53 beautiful years of marriage — a bond built on mutual respect, love, and enduring partnership. Together, they raised four cherished daughters: Céline, Janine, Jessica, and Starr.

She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Parker, Alexa, Daxton, Ashley, Sheldon, Brendon and Nigel. Her home was always open, her heart always full — whether for family, friends, or the many foster children she welcomed into her life over the years. Sharlene was a nurturing presence and a source of guidance for so many, including many foster children who remained in touch long after they left her care.

Born on January 20, 1951, Sharlene was one of a large and loving family. She is survived by her siblings Frederik, Wallace, Jennifer, Leona, Roche and her baby brother Keith. She was predeceased by her brothers Herman and Alwyn.

Sharlene had a gentle, humble spirit. She was an extraordinary listener, a trusted confidant, and someone whose advice came from a place of lived wisdom and sincere empathy. Her presence was calming, nurturing. She loved unconditionally, and was in turn deeply loved by all who knew her.

Her compassion extended beyond people — she adored her pets Boo-boo, Toby, and Bella, who brought her comfort and companionship.

Sharlene's life was a testament to the power of love, patience, and quiet strength. She didn't seek the spotlight but instead illuminated the lives of others through her care and selflessness. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all the lives she touched so deeply.

Mrs Sharlene Fortin's care was entrusted to Buffam Leveille Funeral Home.

Joseph “Fernand” Emile Roy passed away peacefully at the age of 79. He was born on July 25, 1945, in St. Émile de Suffolk, Québec, to Antonio and Jean-Darc Roy.
At the age of one, he moved to Uno Park, where he was raised alongside his six siblings. Fern met and married the love of his life, Gayle Roy (née Hermeston), on October 10, 1970. Together, they raised three sons and built a beautiful life on the family farm in Thornloe.
A die-hard trucker for over 60 years, Fern began his career on the highways but discovered his true calling in the “bush,” hauling logs. He had a deep love for driving his truck. During his downtime, you could often find him at local restaurants or Timmies, enjoying a good conversation with anyone and everyone. He loved listening to the news and sharing stories from “what happened 100 years ago” as featured in The Speaker. A true historian at heart, Fern delighted in sharing his knowledge with all who would listen.
Family was Fern’s heart and soul. He cherished time spent with his loved ones—his five grandchildren, extended family, and countless friends. He found joy in tending to his hobby farm and vegetable garden, tinkering with trucks alongside his sons, and gathering for Sunday morning breakfasts and frequent family get-togethers.
Fern was predeceased by his parents, Antonio and Jean-Darc Roy, his sister Laurette, and his brother Andy Roy.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Gayle; sons Brent (Lisa) Roy, Kevin (Eve) Roy, and Darren Roy with partner Becci; his siblings Reg (Barb) Roy of Sudbury, Claire (Roger) Maurice, Ginette (Miles) Evans, and Carmen Peddie; his brother-in-law Gord Dickinson and sister-in-law Linda Roy. He is also lovingly remembered by many extended family members, friends, and his cherished pets, Vader, Cassie, and Ivory.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Earlton Arena, on July 26th, 2025 at 2:00pm.
Donations in Fern’s memory to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation are greatly appreciated.

Paul Joseph Alfred McDonald
1935 - 2025

Paul Joseph Alfred McDonald of Latchford, Ontario, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on November 3, 1935, in Ottawa, Ontario, to the late Lawrence and Rose (née Proulx) McDonald, Paul leaves behind a proud and loving legacy in his six children: Rose-Anne Wright (Gerald) Brookfield, N.S.; Mary Wickens (Ray) Earlton; Cathy Gow (Scott) Sudbury; Dianne Arpa (Dan)Thornloe; JoAnne Gaboury (Scott) Bonfield; and his only son, Grant McDonald (Trudy) of Latchford.

Paul was a cherished grandfather to Brent (Kara), Michael, Shawn, Cameron, Eden (Riley), Braeden, Brett, Dylan (Karla), Dawson (Katera), Kelsey, Dalton (Riley), Kyla (Steve), Avery (Cameron), Lukas, Bailey (Victoria), and Brody (Daphne).

He was blessed with many great-grandchildren: Rosalie, Amelia, Emberly, Lily, Olive, William—and two more on the way. Siblings: brother Larry McDonald of Port Alberni, B.C., and sister Melanie Goodwin (Dave) Smiths Falls, Ontario.

Paul is predeceased by his beloved wife, Lorraine (née Robertson); his parents, Lawrence and Rose; brother Mickey; sisters Rose-Marie Belinger and Catherine McKean; and great-grandson Felix.

Paul devoted his career to protecting Ontario's forests, a passion that shaped his life. On April 22, 1954, he graduated with honours from Kemptville Agricultural College. In 1955, he began working for the Department of Lands and Forests before continuing his education at Scaling School in 1957. He trained in the winters and fought forest fires during the summers before the Department became the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR).

His work with the MNR first took him to familiar Latchford for four years, and then in May 1960, to Lady Evelyn where he met the love of his life and began a family. Later, he moved to remote Franz, Ontario, to serve as Chief Ranger Officer. Three years later, Paul selflessly pursued a demotion as Deputy Chief Ranger Officer at Hado headquarters in Monetville, knowing this would help his dream of returning to work in Temagami and live in Latchford; after eight years, that dream came true.

Some of Paul's fondest memories were of childhood summers when his mother would take him and his siblings to visit their grandmother in Latchford. To him, it was his paradise and later in life he purchased his first home there, where he lived for 52 years.

After retiring from the MNR with 32 years of service, Paul began his own wood-cutting business, Sawdust City Sam's Fuel Wood, supplying firewood to local seniors. Of all his accomplishments, it was in these later years that cutting wood, sharing stories, and helping others that brought him some of his greatest joy.

Paul had a lifetime of experiences that made for fascinating stories, always shared with anyone who cared to listen. He took great pride in telling people that his descendants are now spread all across Canada.

Our father's health began to decline following the heartbreaking loss of our mother six years ago. Yet, with strength, grace, and the loving support of cherished family friends Maxine Cannon, Marylin and Don Heavans for whom the family is so grateful, as he was able to remain in the family home before spending his final six weeks in the Temiskaming Hospital.

The entire McDonald family extends sincere heartfelt thanks for the many calls and visits from friends, and the wonderful, compassionate care Paul received as a patient during his final days.

Rest peacefully Dad, we love you. Your stories, your laughter, and your love will live on in us.

Family will have a private celebration of life at a later date. Donations can be made to the cancer society! Paul's final care has been entrusted to Buffam Leveille funeral home. Condolences and tributes can be left at www.buffamleveille.com
