Significant Weather Event (December 29, 2025)
Update at 10:40 a.m.

Good morning, Haliburton County,

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Monday, December 29 - strong winds are expected today into tonight in parts of Haliburton County. Strong northwesterly and southwesterly wind gusts up to 70 km/h are possible beginning later this morning and easing tonight.

Significant ice build-up from freezing rain is expected to lead to more impacts from these winds. Utility outages are possible. Property and tree damage is also possible.

A yellow level snow squall warning has also been issued for parts of Haliburton County late this morning or this afternoon. Brief, intense snowfall and blowing snow is expected which can cause near zero visibility in heavy snow and blowing snow. Snowfall amounts up to 5 cm within one hour. Travel will likely be hazardous.

County public works road crews were out yesterday and through the night clearing roads, and continue to maintain the roads today.

Ice, including black ice, and slush continue to create hazardous road conditions this morning. Please drive to the conditions and slow down where needed.

As the weather changes throughout the day, conditions may deteriorate quickly. Please use caution.

Reminders:

🚗 Non-essential travel should be avoided. If road conditions become hazardous, please only travel for essential reasons to allow emergency responders and road crews to move safely.

📢 Build a 72-hour emergency kit to stay prepared for any emergency. Learn more about what to include in your kit here: https://www.haliburtoncounty.ca/en/living-here/emergency-preparation.aspx
