Liz Burns - Driftwood Doula Care

Liz Burns - Driftwood Doula Care Supporting families through pregnancy, birth, and the first year of parenthood. My name is Liz Burns, Doula and Owner of Driftwood Doula Care. I am here.

I offer childbirth education, birth coaching, and support to parents during their infant's first year of life. Prior to becoming a doula, my background was in Psychology, mental health & addictions research, HR, mindfulness training, and, motherhood. I have always been fascinated by pregnancy & birth. Several things led me to realize that I was passionate about supporting people in their journey to parenthood: the births of my two children, my experience of two miscarriages, my experiences navigating the healthcare system, the stories I heard from others about their journeys to parenthood, and my personal experiences with anxiety. I am in the process of completing my certification with Doula Training Canada, and have been supporting clients since September 2022. I founded Driftwood Doula in November 2022. I want to support families in having a positive, empowering, and transformative journey to parenthood. I am an insightful communicator and I think deeply about things that are said to me. I am passionate about enabling my clients to feel heard and understood. I am organized, creative, candid, and proactive. Please reach out to me with any questions you have. You do not have to muddle through this unsupported.

Black Maternal Health Week is a time to acknowledge inequities, centre lived experiences, and commit to change.

Birth inequities are real and ongoing.
Respectful, trauma informed care is essential.
Black voices must be heard and amplified.

Accountability in birth work requires more than awareness. It requires action, reflection, and advocacy.

With preparation, patience, and gentle introductions, many pets can adjust beautifully to life with a new baby.

A growing family includes everyone, even the four legged members.

Not everything you hear about birth is fact.

On April Fools’ Day, we are gently unlearning a few common myths and making space for informed, supportive care.

There is no single “right” way to give birth.

There is only your way, supported with respect, clear information, and compassionate care.

Curiosity is welcome. Questions are valid. Your experience matters.

Perinatal mood disorders are real.
Support is available.
No family should navigate these experiences alone.

Reducing stigma begins with open conversations, compassionate care, and accessible support.

New babies.
New families.

Today we are celebrating the strength, resilience, and love that surrounds every birth story.

On World Sleep Day, we recognise postpartum rest as essential healthcare.

Healing bodies need sleep.
Growing babies need rested caregivers.
Mental health depends on sustainable support.

Night support, safe sleep practices, and shared care can make the early weeks gentler and safer for the whole family.

Rest is not indulgent. It is protective.

On World Doula Day, we honour the evidence behind continuous labour support and the quiet strength of steady presence.

Doulas do not replace medical providers.
We complement care.
We centre your autonomy.
Birth is clinical. Birth is emotional. Birth is human.

You deserve support that honours all three.
