May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month so we thought we’d share some resources with you!

Unfortunately Lyme disease rates are on the rise everywhere, and Nova Scotia is no exception. A good way to prevent Lyme disease is to do our best to avoid being bitten by ticks!

Things you can do to prevent tick bites:
🔹Tuck your shirt in to your pants and your pants in to your socks
🔹Wear light coloured clothing (long sleeved shirts and long pants) so you can better see ticks crawling on you
🔹Avoid walking in long grass
🔹Use a sticky lint roller and roll over clothes/skin after coming in from outdoors
🔹Use PureGard spray. A Health Canada approved tick (and mosquito) essential oil based repellent, made right here in Atlantic Canada
🔹Shower after working outdoors
🔹Do full body tick checks daily

PCOS (Polycystic O***y Syndrome) is now known as PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome).

Why the rename? The condition involves so much more than ovarian cysts. PMOS includes insulin resistance, inflammation, fatigue, cycle irregularities, and metabolic health.

The goal is to better reflect the full-body nature of the condition. According to the journal article published in the Lancet (link in bio) “The name change will enhance awareness, diagnosis, care quality, research coherence, and patient experience, strengthening policy, advocacy, and health outcomes globally.”

PMOS looks different for everyone which is why individualized care matters and Naturopathic medicine can play such an important role in your care. The conversation surrounding PCOS → PMOS is about more than just a name change. It’s about improving awareness, validation, and support for people living with complex hormone and metabolic symptoms. You deserve care that listens to the whole picture! 💙

May is National Physiotherapy Month!

This year’s theme Physiotherapy Moves Communities highlights the profound impact that physiotherapists have in supporting the health and well-being of individuals and communities across the country. Our physiotherapists, Alexa and Maggie are great examples of that here in our own community and have also previously taken their skills across the country to Calgary and Yellowknife!

Physiotherapists play an important role in non-pharmacological pain management and rehabilitation care. They can help manage acute and chronic pain through a variety of strategies and tools such as exercise, education, activity modification, manual therapy, acupuncture, dry needling, taping, and so much more!

🗓️ Book a physiotherapy assessment (or free consult) with Alexa or Maggie to find out how physiotherapy can help support you!

What Andrea (RMT, DOMP) is treating lately…

The snow is finally gone, everyone’s moving again and their hips are telling me everything and the hips don’t lie. Right now I’m seeing people come in thinking they have a “tight hip” problem. In osteopathic treatment, the hip is rarely just a hip issue, it’s a crossroads and what shows up is often a conversation between your:
🦶🏻 Feet - how you’re landing and loading after months of winter guarding
🌀 Pelvis & pelvic floor - tone, tilt, and tension that’s been quietly accumulating
🪴 Lumbar spine - compensating for what the hip stopped doing
🫁 Diaphragm - yes, even your breathing patterns influence how your pelvis sits

Osteopathic manual therapy looks at the whole chain. When your hip feels stiff or achy while coming out of hibernation, I’m not just asking what hurts, I’m asking what’s it compensating for?

The body is a conversation. Your hips are just the ones talking loudest right now!
