Child Safety Link Child Safety Link (CSL) is the children's injury prevention program of IWK Health, located in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.

🔹 77% rear-facing seats misused
🔹 89% forward-facing seats misused
🔹 77% booster seats misused
🔹 55% seat belts misused

The right seat, used the right way, can mean the difference between a serious injury in a crash and no injury at all.

CBC News: High percentage of children's car seats being used incorrectly in Nova Scotia: IWK

September 24, 2025: CBC News highlighted the preliminary results of new research by Dalhousie University and IWK Health’s Child Safety Link on how child passenger safety in Nova Scotia. The study found high rates of incorrect car seat and booster seat use — and reinforces the need for community education and support.

Due dates aren’t always exact, prepare your baby’s car seat at least a few weeks in advance. By law, newborns must be buckled up in a rear-facing car seat.

When choosing a child car seat, always look for the National Safety Mark. If a seat doesn’t have the mark, it is not certified for use in Canada. Learn more about child car seats:
