🧠 Concussion Awareness Day 🧠

Today we’re shining a light on concussions—a common but often misunderstood injury. A concussion is more than just a bump to the head. It can affect your memory, focus, balance, energy, and mood. And symptoms don’t always show up right away.

💡 Here’s what we want you to know:
- You don’t need to lose consciousness to have a concussion.
- Rest is important, but so is gradual reactivation—too much rest can actually slow recovery.
- Everyone’s recovery looks different.
- If symptoms linger, help is available. Vestibular rehab, vision therapy, and pacing strategies can make a big difference.

You’re not alone—and recovery is possible. If you’re struggling with symptoms after a concussion, we’re here to help. Head to our bio to learn more about concussion and how concussion-focused physiotherapy can support your healing 💙

This Balance Awareness Week, I’m shining a light on vestibular migraine — one of the most common (yet misunderstood) causes of dizziness and imbalance.

If you’ve been struggling with vertigo, motion sensitivity, or migraine symptoms that disrupt your balance, you’re not alone. There are strategies that can help.

That’s exactly why I created my Vestibular Migraine Workshop (starting October 7th!) to help you understand your symptoms, find your triggers, and create a Personalized Action Plan for better balance and confidence.

✨Comment WORKSHOP below and I'll send you all the details! ✨

🧰 Toolkit: Vestibular Migraine Edition!

Vestibular migraine can feel overwhelming — but having certain products can make all the difference on hard days.

Here’s what’s inside a VM-friendly toolkit:
- WeatherX: to help with barometric pressure triggers
- Migraine Glasses: brands such as Avulux to reduce certain light spectrums that can trigger symptoms
- Allay Lamp: a specific green light spectrum is linked to a reduction in migraine and can have a calming effect
- 3graine: a combination supplement that includes magnesium, B2 and CoQ10
- Migraine Caps: cooling and compression can help reduce head symptoms when in an attack
- Electrolytes: migraine activity depleats the brain of necessary elements, so daily electrolytes replacement is important
- Weighted vest: this can help ground you and improve your overall sense of vertical (something that alters with VM!)
- EmeTerm: an excellent and powerful anti-nausea device (PSSST! Use code CHERYLWYLIE for 30% off! 😘)
- Cefaly: a trigeminal nerve stimulation device effective for both preventitive and rescue migraine relief

Your kit might look different—and that’s okay.
This isn’t about fixing everything.
It’s about having small, reliable tools to support you when symptoms flare.

Raise you hand if you have ever felt more symptoms in busy environments such as the grocery store, the mall or Costco?

The reason for this all has to do with how our brain is using our balance and sensory systems, and which one it relies the most on. When we rely primarily on vision, busy environments can create conflict within our systems, leaving us feeling dizzy and imbalanced.

This is a common symptom of a specific vestibular disorder called Persistent Postural Perceptual Dizziness (PPPD).

What do you do about it? Luckily vestibular therapy can be very helpful!

PPPD (Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness) is a misunderstood condition — and with that comes a lot of myths.
❌ Myth: “It’s all psychological.”
❌ Myth: “It’s just stress.”
❌ Myth: “You just need to snap out of it.”

Bottom Line:
PPPD is real.
It’s exhausting.
And it’s treatable.

Let’s replace stigma with science — and shame with support 💙

Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness (PPPD) is a chronic condition that causes a constant sense of rocking, swaying, or unsteadiness—especially when standing, walking, or in visually busy environments (like grocery store aisles or scrolling on your phone). You might feel like you're on a boat, even though everything around you is still.

This isn’t “just anxiety” or something in your head. PPPD often develops after a vestibular event like BPPV, vestibular neuritis, or concussion. It can also be triggered by migraines or periods of intense stress.

✨ The good news? PPPD is treatable.
Treatment usually includes:
✔️ Education (understanding the condition reduces fear)
✔️ Vestibular physiotherapy (otolith training, visual motion desentiziation, and reducing visual dependency)
✔️ Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (to reduce threat-based responses)
✔️ Sometimes medication to support your nervous system

Recovery isn’t instant—but it’s possible with the right support and consistent steps. You are not alone in this!

When my Dad had a fall while cycling (don't worry, he's ok!) it made me look more into cycling helmets and the new technology available. It also led me on a path that was a little disappointing!

I always thought helmet's were protecting us from concussions, but research says otherwise. They absolutely protect us from serious head injuries like skull fracture or severe brain injuries, so don't you stop wearing a helmet! BUT, what was surprising was that mild head injuries such as a concussion were still possible even when wearing a helmet.

I wanted to point this out so that in the unfortunate circumstance you do sustain a fall while cycling, keep an eye out for early concussion symptoms and plan to have screening done by a healthcare professional who understands concussions. Early management is incredibly helpful in concussion recovery!

🕶️ Shades for Migraine 😎

Today, on June 21st, we’re putting on our sunglasses—not just for style, but for solidarity.

Why?
Because migraine is more than just a headache.
And for millions living with vestibular migraine, bright lights can trigger dizziness, head pain, nausea, and visual disturbances.

Wearing sunglasses is something many of us have to do every day.
But today, we do it together—to raise awareness and start conversations.

💬 How to Participate:
✅ Wear your shades today!
✅ Snap a selfie
✅ Tag it with
✅ Tag and your local migraine community
✅ Share why you’re joining the movement!

Let’s show the world that migraine is real, disabling, and deserves recognition and research.

💜 One pair of sunglasses. One day. One powerful message.
