Speech Roots Inc. is a growing private practice serving Hamilton, Brantford and Haldimand-Norfolk. We provide home-based assessment and therapy services to both children and adults with a variety of speech, language and literacy needs. We are seeking to fill subcontracted positions for both SLP’s and CDA’s on a part-time basis with the potential for full-time hours. We welcome candidates that are highly skilled, experienced and passionate about making changes in their client’s lives.

Qualifications:
Valid Ontario driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle
Strong oral and written communication skills
Working knowledge of electronic documentation systems
Flexibility to work daytime, evenings and weekends
At least 2 years experience preferred
Member of CASLPO and in good standing (SLP)

Spring has arrived! The sun is starting to shine more, and kids are ready to have fun as we welcome spring. Spring time allows for more language learning outside! A variety of speech and language goals may be worked on while enjoying time outdoors!

Today’s Tip! - A fun game to get kids moving is hop scotch. For this you will need a space to use chalk to draw a hop scotch shape and a bean bag to toss. The twist on this is to use the numbered spaces to practice speech and language skills. If your child tosses the bean bag and it lands on the three, they have to use that number on their turn. Perhaps they have to practice 3 ‘sh’ words, rhyme three words with the -at ending on it or they may have to make up three sentences in a silly story. Others may use vocabulary words in three different sentences. Ask us how this can easily be changed up to work on your child’s speech goals 🙂

We are going to start posting helpful speech strategies used to promote speech and language development. Start using these at home with your child today!

Today’s Tip - Set up routines and use repetitive language

Use the same words/phrases repeatedly during routine activities. Repetitive language can be in the form of rhymes, songs, simple story books etc. Use gestures, actions and pointing when required simultaneously along with speech. Give your child sufficient time to respond i.e. approximately 10 seconds. Pause and let your child fill in the blanks. For example, “When you’re happy and you know it, clap your ______ (hands)” or “1, 2, 3…____ (go)”
