Several systematic reviews have demonstrated that intra-articular (IA) injection of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a safe and effective treatment for patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA).⁣

However, a recent randomized controlled trial involving 288 participants reported that IA injections of PRP might not result in significantly better outcomes than placebo in patients with knee OA.⁣

In this OE Original, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to examine up-to-date evidence from RCTs to determine the efficacy and safety of IA injection of PRP, relative to placebo, in patients with knee OA.⁣
